Cardinals 7 Mets 4 Post Game Notes 4/27/2024:

  • Mets: Move back to .500 for the first time since April 15 (8-8)...Are 1-5 in their last six games after winning six straight from April 14-20.
  • Pete Alonso (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R): Launched his 200th career home run in the fifth...Joins Darryl Strawberry (252), David Wright (242) and Mike Piazza (220) as the only Mets to reach 200 career home runs...Reached 200 career home runs in 710 games...Only Ryan Howard (658), Aaron Judge (671) and Ralph Kiner (706) reached 200 career homers in fewer games...Courtesy of Elias.
  • Brandon Nimmo (2-4, 2 RBI, R, BB): Put the Mets on the board with a two-run single in the fifth...Has 17 RBI in April, his third-most in any month for his career...Has multiple hits in each of his last three home games after only recording four hits in his first nine home games of the season.
  • Adrian Houser (4.1 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K): Has allowed 14 runs in his last two starts.

Brian Joura Mets360: "After a poor outing Friday night by Jose Butto, where he allowed 4 ER in 5.2 IP, Adrian Houser had a golden chance to prove he belongs in the rotation when the injured starters returned. Instead, he was worse than Butto and was the main reason the Mets fell to the Cardinals, 6-4, Saturday afternoon at Citi Field."

Dan Martin NY Post: Mets’ Francisco Lindor’s four-strikeout day ends on pop-up with bases loaded. "Three days ago, Francisco Lindor carried the Mets to a much-needed, road-trip-closing victory with a pair of home runs. On Saturday, he struck out four times and popped up with the bases loaded to end a second straight dismal home defeat."

Tim Healey Newsday: Adrian Houser stumbles from the start, Mets can't catch up in loss to Cardinals. "Adrian Houser, the weakest link in the Mets’ rotation, will remain in the rotation, manager Carlos Mendoza said. After Houser struggled again from the outset in a 7-4 loss to the Cardinals on Saturday, upping his ERA to 8.37 through the first month of the season, Mendoza remained committed to the veteran righthander, saying: 'Our job is to get him back on track. He’s part of the rotation.'”

Born on this date:

1965
As Houston fans cheer their pregame ascent, Mets announcer Lindsey Nelson and a radio engineer climb into the Astrodome's gondola and are hoisted 208 feet above second base to broadcast the game. The umpiring crew determines that any ball hitting the pair will be in play, since an existing ground rule also calls a ball hitting any part of the dome is also in play.
1995
Showing their displeasure at the recent baseball strike, three fans jump a Shea Stadium fence with one out in the top of the fourth inning, and begin scattering dollar bills at the feet of the Mets' players on the field. As a finale to their defiant act, the trio stands on second base with arms raised, showing the Opening Day crowd T-shirts that are stenciled with the word Greed.

2010
David Wright surpasses Ed Kranepool to become the Mets all-time leader in doubles. The 27 year-old third baseman, who collected his 1,000th career hit yesterday, strokes his 226th two-bagger in the second inning of the Mets' 7-3 victory over L.A. at Citi Field.

1962 - Frank ThomasCharlie Neal and Gil Hodges hit consecutive home runs in the 6th inning to lead the expansion New York Mets to an 8 - 6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The victory is a rare occurrence for the Mets - one of only 40 during their inaugural season.

2001Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals ties the major league record for home runs in April by a rookie with 8, but St. Louis falls to the Mets, 6 - 5, in 11 innings.
