Binghamton Game Recap: Bowie Scores Four Runs in Eighth to Defeat Ponies

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-14) fell to the Bowie Baysox, 4-0, on Wednesday at Mirabito Stadium. The series is tied, 1-1.

Right-hander Brandon Sproat made his Double-A debut for Binghamton. Sproat struck out six batters over five scoreless innings, while allowing just three hits and two walks. He threw 82 pitches and 52 strikes and retired the first eight batters he faced.

The 23-year-old has allowed three hits or less in each of the first seven appearances of his professional career, with the first six outings coming for High-A Brooklyn. Sproat currently ranks as the Mets No. 13 prospect, per MLB Pipeline.

The game was scoreless until Bowie (18-16) scored four runs in the eighth inning. Collin Burns hit a go-ahead solo home run to lead off the eighth against Cameron Foster (1-1). The next three batters reached on an error, walk, and error. Later in the frame TT Bowens drove in a run on a groundout and Frederick Bencosme hit an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Foster allowed just one earned run and three unearned runs over three innings of work out of the bullpen. Carlos Guzman faced the minimum in the ninth for Binghamton.

Binghamton had its best chance to take the lead in the sixth inning. With JT Schwartz on first base, Jeremiah Jackson hit a double on the first pitch Nick Richmond threw and Schwartz was thrown out on a play at the plate trying to score on the hit.

Bowie used four pitchers to shutout the Ponies. Trace Bright started for Bowie and tossed 4.1 innings. Nick Richmond tossed 1.1 innings. Ryan Watson (1-0) threw 2.1 innings and Keagan Gillies pitched a perfect ninth inning.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game series with the Bowie Baysox (Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) at Mirabito Stadium on Thursday. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on WNBF News Radio 1290 & 92.1 FM and MiLB.TV.

Postgame Notes: The Rumble Ponies were shutout for the second time this season…Wyatt Young went 2-for-4 and recorded his fifth multi-hit game…Ryan Clifford recorded the first hit of his Double-A career with a single in the second inning and he reached base twice on a hit and walk…Rowdey Jordan singled in the first to extend his hitting streak to six games.
