BRADENTON, Fla. (May 12, 2024) – The Bradenton Marauders won a slugfest 12-11 in 10 innings against the St. Lucie Mets on Sunday afternoon at LECOM Park to complete a six-game series sweep.

The Marauders won their 10th straight game to tie a franchise record. The Mets lost for a ninth straight game. Half of the wins by the Marauders in the series were walk-offs. A fourth win came when the Mets stranded the tying run on third base in the ninth.

The game entered the 10th inning tied 10-10. Boston Baro hit a two-out, two-strike RBI single in the top half to bring home Marco Vargas for an 11-10 lead.

The Marauders answered immediately in the bottom half when leadoff hitter Jeral Toledo hit a tying RBI double against Jawilme Ramirez. Eddy Rodriguez dropped down a sac bunt to move Toledo to third base as the winning run. The Mets intentionally walked red-hot Omar Alfonzo to face Esmerlyn Valdez, who was 0 for 5 with three strikeouts. Ramirez got to two strikes but Valdez laced game-winning single to center.

The Marauders erased two other Mets leads in the game. St. Lucie jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the second inning but Bradenton scored seven unanswered by the end of the third to go up 7-5.

Jesus Baez crushed a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Mets up 8-7. However, the Marauders scored three times against Wilson Lopez in the bottom of the inning to put the Marauders up 10-8.

With the bases loaded in the eighth, Yohairo Cuevas hit a two-run double to tie the game 10-10. The ball rolled out of play in the right field corner for a ground rule double, costing the Mets a bases-clearing triple that would have given them a one-run lead.

Mets reliever Jimmy Lopez pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to finish out regulation and help force extras.

Baez went 2 for 6 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

The Mets (12-21) are off on Monday. They continue their road trip on Tuesday by starting a commuter series to the Palm Beach Cardinals. First pitch on Tuesday from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is set for 5:00 p.m.
