Hernandez collects season-high on4 hits in loss
JUPITER, Fla. (May 19, 2024) – The Palm Beach Cardinals outslugged the St. Lucie Mets 10-6 in the series finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals took five of six games in the series.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first two innings against Mets starter Franklin Gomez, but the Mets rallied back with a run in the third and two in the fourth inning on a triple by Diego Mosquera to tie the game 3-3.
The Cardinals took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when Johnfrank Salazar hit a RBI single and Miguel Villarroel hit a grand slam two batters later off reliever Miguel Alfonseca to put the Cardinals up 8-3.
The Mets ended up scoring in five of the last seven innings and pounded out 17 hits, the second most in a game this season. Ronald Hernandez extended his hitting streak to seven games and collected a season-high four hits.
Jeffry Rosa went 3 for 5 with a RBI. Mosquera, Jesus Baez and Donovan Antonia had two hits apiece.
Alfonseca took the loss after giving up five runs on two hits and two walks in 0.2 innings.
Palm Beach reliever Hunter Hayes was credited the win despite giving up six hits and two runs in 2.2 innings behind starter Hunter Klubick.
The Mets finished their season-long 12-game road trip 1-11. They have lost 14 of their last 15 games.
The Mets (13-26) are off Monday. They return to the diamond on Tuesday when they start a six-game series against the Clearwater Threshers at Clover Park. First pitch on Tuesday is 6:05 p.m.
