From the Mets 10 Marlins 4 Post Game Notes - 6/12/2024

  • Mets: Are 7-4 in their last 11 games dating to May 30...Went 2-9 in their previous 11 games from May 18 - May 29...Was their third game this season with 10 or more runs...Was the club's ninth game with three or more homers.
  • Harrison Bader: Put the Mets on the board with a two-run home run in the first...Was his fourth career home run in the first inning...Has two home runs in his last six games after only having two in his first 53 games of the season.
  • Tyrone Taylor: Picked up his second four hit game of his career (Also: 9/9/20)...Was his second game with three or more hits this season (Also: 4/17 vs. Pittsburgh).
  • Francisco Lindor: Lined a solo home run in the eighth...Was his 300th career RBI as a member of the Mets...Has a .962 OPS with 14 home runs and 38 RBI over his last 41 games against the Marlins dating back to September 28, 2021.
  • Francisco Alvarez: Put the Mets back on top with an RBI single in the second...Was his first hit and RBI since being reinstated from the IL on June 11...Also recorded an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the seventh.
  • Starling Marte (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB): Launched a solo home run in the fifth and recorded an RBI single in the fifth...Has a 1.093 OPS over his last 19 games dating back to May 18.
  • Dedniel Nuñez: Struck out a career-high five batters over 2.1 perfect innings...Has recorded three or more strikeouts in six of his 10 relief appearances this season...Is the eighth pitcher in major league history to record 24 or more strikeouts and issue three or fewer walks through their first 10 relief appearances.
  • David Peterson: Is 3-0 lifetime against the Marlins at Citi Field.

Brian Joura Mets360: “The Mets put on their hitting shoes, as they pounded out 14 hits and 10 runs – only the third time this year they’ve reached double-digit runs – as they blew out the Marlins, 10-4, Wednesday night at Citi Field.”

NY Post Mets put on power show in blowout win over Marlins “With Brandon Nimmo receiving a day off against Marlins lefty Braxton Garrett, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza moved Bader to the No. 2 slot in the lineup for the first time this season. And Bader belted a 1-2 pitch for a two-run homer to left-center in the home first.”

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets rout Marlins as Harrison Bader, Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte all go deep. "Manager Carlos Mendoza indicated before the game that he slotted Bader in there in part because the Mets were facing a lefthander, Braxton Garrett. So that arrangement might not be a regular thing. But for a game, at least, it panned out — immediately."

SNY.TV: “Unfortunately, after working 2.1 innings that likely means Nunez may be heading down to Triple-A as the bullpen faces a numbers crunch with closer Edwin Diaz coming off the IL on Thursday.”

1965

At Shea Stadium, 20 year-old outfielder Ron Swoboda, in-route to finishing the season with 19, breaks the franchise record for home runs hit by a rookie when he goes deep off Dick Ellsworth in the first inning with a three-run homer, a poke that will provide all of the runs the Mets will score in their 3-2 victory over Chicago. Jim Hickman had established the mark with 13 round-trippers in 1962, the club's inaugural season.

1976

The Mets sweep the Giants in a twin bill at Candlestick Park, 4-2 and 4-1. The victories mark the first time in 17 tries that the team has won two games on the same day.

2012

R.A. Dickey, who gives up only a first-inning infield single for his second career one-hitter in the Mets' 9-1 victory over the Rays, breaks the franchise record for consecutive scoreless innings. The 37 year-old knuckleballer, surpassing the previous club mark of 31.2 scoreless innings in a row set by Jerry Koosman in 1973, establishes a new mark of 32.2 frames before an unearned run in the ninth inning snaps his string.

Baseball Reference:

1980Vida Blue of the San Francisco Giants defeats the Mets, 3 - 1, as Milt May hits franchise home run #9,000 for the Giants. Monte Ward hit home run #1 for the Giants in 1883, and #8,000 was hit by Bobby Bonds on September 41971.

2012R.A. Dickey of the Mets tosses a one-hitter for a 9 - 1 win over the Rays. The only safety comes in the 1st inning, when B.J. Upton hits a high bouncer that 3B David Wright cannot field with his bare hand; the Mets appeal after the game for the ruling to be reversed to an error, but to no avail. Dickey becomes the majors' first 10-game winner this year, but before the night is out, he is joined by Lance Lynn of St. Louis, who fans a career-high 12 batters in a combined 1 - 0 shutout of the White SoxYou Tube Video.

2013Adam Wainwright becomes the first ten-game winner in the majors this season when the Cardinals defeat the Mets, 2 - 1. Wainwright pitches seven scoreless innings, while Matt Harvey is saddled with his first loss, in spite of a very good performance of his own.
