NY Post: Mets swept by Mariners as Luis Severino struggles in lopsided loss to end dismal road trip. "The right-hander pitched five innings and surrendered four earned runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Severino, who allowed two homers, saw his ERA increase to 4.17."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets blown out as Mariners finish series sweep. "...the Mets finished their 10-day, 10-game, four-city road trip with a 4-6 record. They are a half-game behind Atlanta for the last National League wild-card spot as they head into their day off Monday...Jeff McNeil homered off Castillo in the sixth, his final inning. That ended the Mets’ scoreless streak at 24 innings dating to Thursday. Facing one of the worst offenses in the majors, the Mets were outscored 22-1 in the series."

Anthony DiComo MLB.com: "No Mets team has ever been shut out in all three games of a three-game series. Until this weekend, only a handful had come all that close...Before the Mets dropped their series finale on Sunday Night Baseball, the Phillies, Braves, Brewers, Padres, Pirates and Giants all lost, too."

Mets come home to play the A's, Marlins and Orioles in a 9 game homestand starting tomorrow before going back out West to play the Diamondbacks, Padres and White Sox.

Ed Kranepool becomes the Mets all-time home run leader for the young franchise when he goes deep off Don Wilson in the fourth inning of the team's 8-7 loss to Houston at the Astrodome. The 24 year-old first baseman passes Jim Hickman, who had 60 round-trippers for the Amazins from 1962-66.

2000

At Shea Stadium, the Giants get two unusual runs in the fourth inning as the Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani catches what he thinks is the third out and gives the ball to a kid in the stands. The mental lapse of not knowing there was only one out in the frame allows both runners on base to score, but the Mets will prevail, beating San Francisco, 3-2.
