From the Mets 2 Nationals 1 Post Game Notes - 9/16/2024

Mets
  • Earned their 11th walk-off win of the season, tied with San Francisco for the most such wins in the majors...Are tied for the third-most such wins in a single season in franchise history (Also: 1963, 2006 and 2021).
  • Move to 8-8 in extra inning games.
  • They are now 24-19 against the NL East this season and 9-2 against Washington.
  • Are 26-16 in one-run games this season.
  • Hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win...Was his 11th career walk-off RBI and his first of the season (Last. 7/27/22 vs. Yankees).
  • Singled home a run in the eighth inning to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games...Is his longest hitting streak since September 12 - 26, 2021 when he hit safely in 12 straight games with Boston.
  • Has a 2.69 ERA (33 ER/11.0.1 IP) over his last 18 starts dating back to June 14...Has held opposing batters to a .173 (67-387) batting average during that span...Has allowed three runs or fewer in 16 of those starts.
  • Has pitched 6.0 or more innings in seven straight starts, tied for the longest such streak of his career (Also: 4/30/22 - 6/8/22).
  • Has now completed 7.0 or more innings eight times this season...All eight of those starts have come since July 2, the most such starts in the majors during that span...That is the second-most 7.0 IP+ starts he’s recorded in a single-season in his career...He had nine such starts in 2018 with Oakland.
Brian Joura Mets360: "Starling Marte had a chance when he came up as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning with a runner on third base but he grounded out. He had another chance in the 10th inning and delivered the game-winning hit, sending the Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Nationals. With the Braves’ loss – losing to the Dodgers 9-0 in the eighth inning as this is being written – the Mets move into sole possession of the third Wild Card spot.

Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets beat Nationals on Starling Marte's walk-off hit in 10th, move a game ahead of Atlanta for final wild-card spot. "Francisco Lindor has carried so much of this Mets season on his back — metaphorically and, given his recent injury, literally. On Monday, as the Mets faced the reality of playing a chunk of this pivotal stretch run without their team MVP, it was time for his teammates to return the favor."

NY Post: Starling Marte plays hero in extras as Mets escape with walk-off win over Nationals. "With Francisco Lindor’s lower back still aching — but maybe not as much as the Mets lineup — Marte smacked a walk-off RBI single that gave his team a 2-1 victory over the Nationals at Citi Field. The Mets, who snapped a two-game skid, have scored only three runs over their last 24 innings since Saturday."
