Mets Release 2024 New York Mets Year In Review

 

The New York Mets have released their 2024 Year In Review Game Notes.

METSCELLANEOUS: The Mets finished the season going 89-73, tied for second in the National League East and clinching a Wild Card spot in the Postseason...Their 89-73 record was a 14-win improvement from 2023 (75-87)...The team fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-games-to-2 in the NLCS.

EIGHT IS GREAT: According to Elias, the Mets are the eighth team to reach the League Championship Series after being 11+ games under .500, joining: 2019 Nationals, 2013 Dodgers, 2005 Astros, 1989 Blue Jays, 1984 Royals, 1974 Pirates and the 1973 Mets.

MENDOZA LINES: Carlos Mendoza was named the 25th manager in franchise history...The 44-year-old spent the previous 15 seasons with the Yankees organization, including the last four as the club’s bench coach...From 2018-2019, Mendoza served as the Yankees’ quality control coach...Prior to joining the big league coaching staff, Mendoza served as a manager and coach in the Yankees farm system...A native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Mendoza is the second full-time Venezuelan-born manager in big league history, joining Ozzie Guillén.

DINGERS: The Mets finished sixth in the majors and fourth in the NL with 207 home runs this season...New York hit 215 home runs in 2023 and 171 in 2022...The Mets recorded 200+ home runs in a single-season for the sixth time in franchise history.

HOME, SWEET HOME: The Mets won 12 of their last 14 games at home and 15 of their last 19...New York finished the year going 46-35 at home in 2024, including a 46-34 record at Citi Field (one home game in London)...The Mets went 33-12 at Citi Field from June 12 until the end of the season...The team lost consecutive games at home only three times in that period...New York posted a 3.57 ERA at home, which was sixth in the majors and fourth in the NL...The Mets went 43-38 at Citi Field in 2023, posting a 3.89 ERA.

BLANK STREET COFFEE: The Mets recorded nine shutouts in 2024...The Mets did not record a shutout until their 92nd game of the season...The Mets went a total of 94 games without a shutout from September 30, 2023 (game one) until July 10, 2024...That was the second-longest streak in franchise history...Their 91 games without a shutout to start a season was the longest in franchise history...The overall franchise record is 118 games without a shutout from May 24-September 30, 1982...The 2007 Tampa Bay Rays were the last team to have a longer streak to start a season without a shutout...They did not record a clean sheet in their first 115 games of the season.

STREAKY CLEAN: Francisco Lindor owned a career-best 35 game on-base streak from July 31-September 7...Over the stretch, he batted .324 (48-148) with 29 runs, 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 21 RBI, 10 walks, a .371 OBP, a .574 SLG and a .945 OPS in that span...He safely hit in 32 of those 35 games.

THIS IS 200!: Pete Alonso launched his 200th home run of his career on April 27 vs. St. Louis..He joined Darryl Strawberry (252), David Wright (242) and Mike Piazza (220) as the only Mets to reach 200 career home runs...He reached 200 career home runs in 710 games...Only Ryan Howard (658), Aaron Judge (671) and Ralph Kiner (706) reached 200 career homers in fewer games...Courtesy of Elias.

SWAGGY V: In his first 13 career Postseason games, Mark Vientos batted .327 (18-55) with five homers, 14 RBI, two doubles, three walks, eight runs, a .362 OBP and a .998 OPS...His 14 RBI are the most by a Met in a single Postseason, he passed Daniel Murphy (2015) and John Olerud (1999) who both previously had the record with 12 RBI.
