Audacy.com/WFAN: Moose's New Year's Resolution for Pete Alonso: Remember Darryl Strawberry, and re-sign with the Mets. "Another great, unbelievable homegrown Met in Darryl Strawberry regrets that he left. Money is money, I get it, and if Alonso goes out and gets a $200 million offer, great; but the message I would have for Alonso is this: don’t make a decision you will regret. Learn from Strawberry and the past, and understand where home is.”

Joel Sherman NY Post Sports+ How Mets can solve Pete Alonso contract dilemma — and the alternatives if they can’t. "If the Mets never relinquish going long in years do they offer the highest per-annum deal ever for a first baseman?...A four-year deal would take Alonso through his age-33 season, which is what the Mets were willing to do with [Teoscar] Hernandez, for example – a two-year deal would have taken him through 33. Does between $28 million-$30 million with the ability for Alonso to opt out after, say, two years get it done? Does adding a vesting fifth-year option help?" [Subscription Required]

Danny Abriano SNY.TV: What could a Mets pivot away from Pete Alonso look like? "Turning to Alex Bregman could make the most sense if a reunion with Alonso isn't in the cards...The Mets don't have a legitimate first base option on their 40-man roster aside from Vientos, so going internal would likely mean moving him over and having someone else from the 40-man play third base.  The options for third base are numerous, with Jeff McNeil, Luisangel Acuña, Ronny Mauricio, and Brett Baty among them. But all of those players come with huge question marks."

Mike Lupica NY Daily News: Juan Soto delivered as promised and earns our Sportsperson of the Year. "Then, when the money was on the table in October and Judge was slumping, Soto stepped up all over again, getting 16 hits in 14 postseason games; having an on-base percentage of .478 and batting average of .368 in the league championship series and then a .522 on-base percentage and a .313 batting average in the World Series...And when the season was over, he rang the bell one last time, in a different kind of Subway Series between Steve Cohen and Hal Steinbrenner, signing the biggest free agent contract in history to go across town and play for the Mets."
