Mike Puma NY Mets: Mets need to strengthen bullpen with many big names available. Mike looks at the bigger names still available including - Tanner Scott: "A right/left combo of Diaz and Scott in the late innings would be scary for opponents."; Jeff Hoffman: "Last season, his chase, whiff and strikeout percentages were all in elite territory, with a wipeout slider serving as his weapon of choice." David Robertson: "The ageless wonder rebounded last season following an ugly two-month stint with the Marlins in 2023 after the Mets traded him." Also, Kenley Jansen, Kirby Yates, Chris Martin, and Paul Sewald.
Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: The pros and cons of Mets potentially signing Pete Alonso. "Alonso handles the New York spotlight better than most. He’s gregarious, engaging, prides himself on being a part of the community and, of course, hits a lot of home runs, especially in big moments...But his production has declined over the last two years. He hits and throws right-handed and while he’s a fine defender, he’s not exactly a Gold Glover."
Jon Heyman says the #Angels are “looking at” Pete Alonso, but there seems to be a gap in years.

“I do believe Arte Moreno wants to get another big bat in there. And they would move Schanuel out to LF if they were to do that. I think Santander is probably a little more likely.” pic.twitter.com/yIryvxBGZv
"Yeah, but the last time you faced him was this same inning."

Casey Stengel was managing the Mets & Tug McGraw wanted to be left in the game after saying that he wasn't tired & that he'd struck out the batter he was about to face in his preceding at-bat.

Mets.com:
- Happy New Year! 1 prediction for each team in 2025 "Mets: New York will win the NL East. The stage is set for the Mets to win their first division title in a decade. The Braves are growing older and coming off an injury-laden season. Without Max Fried, Atlanta’s pitching staff doesn’t look as fearsome as it once did. While the Phillies remain a force, the Mets proved they could disrupt their Jersey Turnpike rivals even before signing Juan Soto. Carlos Mendoza’s club may not enter next season as the on-paper NL East favorites, but they have as good a chance as any club to lock down the division. It’s a realistic goal for them heading into spring."
- One potential breakout prospect for each organization in 2025 For the Mets it is "Edward Lantigua...Signed for $950,000 last January, Lantigua enjoyed a solid first season in the Dominican Summer League, earning All-Star honors alongside his .263/.397/.395 line and 122 wRC+ in 45 games. There is undoubtedly more power coming as he fills out his 6-foot-1 frame, though he showed that pop in flashes this summer. If and when it does, the 18-year-old could land anywhere in the outfield and be valuable, no matter if he needs to move off center full-time as some expect."
