PRESS RELEASE: METS OFFICIALLY RE-SIGN PETE ALONSO "We're excited to welcome Pete back to Queens" Mets Owners Steve and Alex Cohen said. "He is a homegrown talent who is adored by our fanbase. It should be a fun summer at Citi Field watching Pete contribute to a great lineup and chase the franchise home run record."

NY Post: Mets bring back injured flamethrower who might miss 2025 season. "Drew Smith, who is expected to miss most (if not all) of this season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, has reached agreement with the team on a one-year contract that contains a club option for 2026, an industry source confirmed. Smith’s deal will pay him $1 million for this season. If the Mets pick up his option, the contract will be worth an additional $2 million."

Newsday: Mets re-sign Drew Smith, who is unlikely to pitch this season, to one-year deal. "Because Smith had his second Tommy John surgery last July, however, he is unlikely to pitch this year. So the Mets in effect will pay him to rehab and can keep him for another season if they like how he looks come November. Upon making his return official, the Mets also put Smith on the 60-day injured list."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' David Stearns: Pete Alonso's return is last major move of offseason. "Minutes after the Mets made official Pete Alonso’s two-year, $54 million contract Wednesday, David Stearns confirmed that his work here is done...That means — probably — no elite starting pitcher, no extra late-inning reliever, no Jose Iglesias."

David Lennon Newsday: Mets' Steve Cohen and David Stearns proving to be one of MLB's best front-office duos. "The most formidable front-office duo this side of the Mississippi beat super-agent Scott Boras during the negotiations that finally delivered Pete Alonso back to his adoring Flushing fan base...Because when you combine Steve Cohen’s near-limitless resources and David Stearns’ cool baseball intellect — not to mention their own legit Mets’ fan DNA — that’s a pretty fearsome combo for the industry to deal with, whether it’s the winter talent marketplace or between the lines come summer."

Mark Vientos, David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza all addressed the media yesterday.  Highlights below.  Here are links to the full interviews.
