Joel Sherman NY Post Sports+: Mets bringing back Pete Alonso would be emotional high fanbase needs. "Would they still like to add Alonso to that mix? Probably. But at what cost? Remember that the Mets project to the edge of the top luxury-tax threshold right now — the Steve Cohen Tax — and will be penalized at 110 percent for every dollar over $301 million. Thus, if Alonso signs for, say, $23 million annually, that would add roughly $25 million to their tax bill...Is there enough of a difference between Alonso at first and Mark Vientos at third, compared to Vientos at third and some combination of Vientos at first and Luisangel Acuña, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio at third, to justify a $45 million-$50 million hit?" NY Post: Well, Boomer, we’re still waiting: Esiason’s Pete Alonso-Mets prediction is epic dud. "Boomer Esiason, the WFAN radio host, confidently claimed Thursday that Alonso and the Mets would finally reunite on Friday, which would end a months-long free agency battle between the two sides...Friday [and now Saturday] has passed, however, and Alonso still remains unsigned."

NY Daily News: Mets Notebook: Brandon Nimmo ‘fully’ plans to be ready for Opening Day amid recovery from plantar fasciitis. "The Mets left fielder received an injection in his ailing left foot after last season and has been going to physical therapy for it throughout the winter. “The biggest thing is being ready for Opening Day, and to that point, we’re just gonna try and go as fast as the foot will let us,” Nimmo said last weekend at the Amazin’ Day fan festival at Citi Field.
