Good Morning. Happy Birthday Carlos Carrasco and Jimmy Yacabonis. Mets win 10-3 behind Kodai Senga and Luis Torrens and the Mets reportedly get a minor league outfielder from the Phils.

So they’ll start on March 31 and April 1, in that order, against the Marlins.

Turning behind the ball was a major focus this off season.

Last year my hands were pushy and created a low almost negative attack angle (late timing attributed to that) producing mid-high ground ball % and average WRC+.

Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets former top prospect Brett Baty ‘in good position’ to make Opening Day roster. "The team’s leader in OPS is probably who you expect — Juan Soto, with a 1.217 OPS in 36 plate appearances. But Baty is right behind him, having posted a 1.022 OPS in 50 plate appearances...Baty was able to build on the work he did at second last year with Triple-A Syracuse over the winter, and while he hasn’t exactly mastered the position, the Mets are comfortable with him in the middle infield. Sending him to Triple-A to learn second base was an unconventional decision when it was made last June, but with Jeff McNeil and Nick Madrigal both injured, it was a decision that could end up paying dividends this season."
Jon Heyman NY Sports+: The 21 players making scouts take notice in spring training. Two Mets and one Ex-Met make Jon's list: #7. Eric Orze, Rays: The cancer survivor and former Met farmhand is pitching well in Rays camp; #12. Clay Holmes, Mets: The longtime reliever earned his Opening Day start with sheer dominance. “Big stuff.”; #19. Brett Baty, Mets: He’s hitting a ton in camp and looks to get a lot of time at second base. (subscription required)
Joel Sherman NY Post Sports+: Comparing Francisco Lindor’s résumé to Derek Jeter, Carlos Beltran — and how he can solidify himself as a Hall of Famer. "...Lindor, yes, is on the right track, but he has work to do to solidify a Cooperstown career and — in a Jeter-esque flourish...Lindor also will now bat leadoff in front of Juan Soto, who is on as sure a Hall track as just about any player ever through their age-25 season. That duo now together — 1-2 in the lineup — can enhance their road to Cooperstown if they help the Mets take a couple of detours to the Canyon of Heroes." (subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post: Hayden Senger staying patient as he awaits his fate after long tenure in Mets organization. "The 27-year-old remains in the mix for the team’s backup catcher job, after Francisco Alvarez underwent surgery earlier this month for a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Senger and Jakson Reetz are the remaining candidates in camp for the job...'The feedback I am getting from not only from the pitching coaches, but the pitching staff [on Senger] is pretty encouraging,' Carlos Mendoza said. 'This is a guy who has been in the organization for a long time and putting himself in a pretty good position.'”
Tim Healey Newsday: The Mets helped fix his visa issues. Now Huascar Brazoban can help them with their bullpen. "Because of perennial visa-related issues stemming from a lie he told as a teenager, Brazoban almost always has been delayed in reporting to spring training...Brazoban fits into the bullpen puzzle as a multi-inning option who did well in that role with the Marlins. Whether or not he is on the Opening Day roster, he is “in the mix,” as Mendoza put it, and figures to get the call at some point. The Mets can option him to the minors, making him an important depth piece."
