Brian Joura Mets360: "Tylor Megill got the start but was not especially sharp, as he consistently ran deep counts and dealt with baserunners all game. He needed 78 pitches to get thru four innings, as he gave up three hits, three walks and a hit by pitch."

NY Post: "Francisco Alvarez, serving as the DH, continued his solid start at the plate with a double down the left-field line with one out in the bottom of the second. Alvarez scored on Tyrone Taylor’s single to left to cut the Mets’ deficit to 2-1. But that was it for the Mets’ lineup."

John Coppinger Kiner's Korner: "This was not a great day for Omar Narvaez...Narvaez got clipped on the catcher's interference, then had the Brewers run all over him as three steals which led, directly and indirectly, to two Milwaukee runs...he had a chance to atone for all of this in the 4th. Tyrone Taylor had just loaded the bases on an epic 12 pitch at-bat...But he flew out to right field to end the inning and the Mets had three hits the rest of the way."

Report: Yohan Ramirez and Carlos Mendoza suspended  Carlos Mendoza served his suspension March 31.  Yohan Ramirez decided to appeal his 3-game ban.

Brian Joura Mets 360The old Earl Weaver maxim was pitching, defense and the three-run homer. The Mets had two of those things Friday night but the missing three-run blast was the difference, as the Mets fell to the Marlins, 2-1.

Mike Puma NY PostA day after playing a well-rounded game to win the opener, the Mets managed only four hits and didn’t score until the ninth inning, when Alonso cleared the right-field fence against A.J. Puk for the team’s first homer of the season.

Jason Fry Faith and Fear in Flushing: "There were Marlins making plays they had no business making, most notably Jorge Soler out in right field screwing up his pursuit of a Pete Alonso drive just enough to turn it into a spectacular play and later making a more authentically nifty shoe-string grab to rob Starling Marte. Soler also put the Marlins on top with a solo shot off David Peterson, who looked like he was always about to implode but kept staggering out of trouble."

Metstradamus: “Not Known For Defense” - "Going into Friday’s game, Jorge Soler’s dWAR was -8.7 in 470 career games in the outfield. The Mets losing a game primarily because of Soler’s defense in Miami seems ridiculous, and yet … on brand."

John Harper SNY.TV: Mets' need for reliable right-handed DH exposed in loss to Marlins. "Against a lefty like Jesus Luzardo, Mets had no answer in their lineup."

NY Post: No magic from relievers in bad Mets loss. "On a day the Mets hit three home runs and starting pitcher Dillon Gee put in a solid effort, the Mets’ bullpen blew it all up Monday in an ugly 9-7, 10-inning Opening Day loss to the Nationals at Citi Field...Parnell allowed a two-out RBI double to Denard Span in the ninth, allowing the Nationals to tie the game, 5-5. Last season the Mets blew 18 save chances as the bullpen took 31 losses. The Mets allowed six two-out runs on the day...Jeurys Familia got the loss, giving up two runs in the 10th. A wind-blown, pop-fly single and a passed ball by Travis d’Arnaud, did not help matters, as Familia surrendered a sacrifice fly for the first run of the four-run 10th. He was followed by lefty John Lannan, who walked Adam LaRoche and gave up the final blow, a three-run home run to Anthony Rendon."
