Press Release: 11 Members of ’23 Rumble Ponies Selected to Mets Spring Breakout Roster "The Mets Spring Breakout roster is headlined by MLB Pipeline's top three ranked prospects in the organization: SS/OF, Jett Williams, OF Drew Gilbert, and SS/2B Luisangel Acuña. All three were key parts of the '23 Rumble Ponies run to the Eastern League Championship Series...Other members of the '23 Ponies on the roster are C Kevin Parada (#9), RHP Blade Tidwell (#10), RHP Dom Hamel (#14), RHP Tyler Stuart (#18), OF Rhylan Thomas (#30)RHP Paul GervaseLHP Daniel Juarez, and RHP Wilkin Ramos."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets still believe in prospect Alex Ramirez despite what the numbers say.  "Last summer, he finished his worst minor-league season...This week, he revealed the offseason routine that he and the Mets hope un-stalls his career: five-days-per-week workouts at the Mets’ Dominican facility, where he revamped his swing with a trio of in-house hitting coaches...Their goal was to shorten Ramirez’s swing. He is lanky — listed at 6-3 and 196 pounds — and had been striking out too much, more than 20% of his plate appearances in 2023.  They think they were successful, with Ramirez noting that his presence at the plate now features “less movement.”

NY Post: Shintaro Fujinami’s thrilling heat makes him an electric Mets project. "Among the most electric — and among the most wild — pitchers in baseball, Fujinami is vying for a bullpen job with the Mets after an offseason signing that Stewart said he celebrated...Fujinami averaged 98.4 mph with his fastball in his rookie MLB season last year but also pitched to a 7.18 ERA."

Yardbarker.com: The Mets might have the next Shohei Ohtani in their farm system. "Currently, the Mets have a player in their farm system who fits that bill and he may end up following in Ohtani’s footsteps. After posting ridiculous numbers in high school, Nolan McLean drew the attention of MLB scouts. In 53 games, he batted .381 with an on-base percentage of .589. On the mound, he posted a 2.05 ERA and had 88 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings."

Before an intrasquad contest in St. Petersburg in a pregame ceremony, the Mets announce the election of their former manager Casey Stengel to the Hall of Fame. The 75 year-old 'Old Perfessor' benefitted from a new rule by the Baseball Writers Committee on Veterans that makes any manager, umpire, or executive past the age of 65 eligible to be elected to the Hall of Fame six months after retiring, bypassing the traditional five-year wait rule for players.

 Baseball Reference.com:

1966 - The Hall of Fame Special Veterans Committee waives one of its election rules and selects manager Casey Stengel as the newest member of the Hall. Stengel managed the New York Mets for much of the 1965 season before falling and breaking his hip. The injury ended the elderly Stengel's career. Given his age, the Veterans Committee decides to make him immediately eligible for Cooperstown.
