From the Post Game Notes: "Pete Alonso...Slugged a three-run homer into the visitor's bullpen in the third...Is tied with Max Muncy for the major league lead in home runs...Was his 67th career home run at Citi Field, tied with Michael Conforto for the second-most in the ballpark's history...Is five shy of passing Lucas Duda for the all-time Citi Field home run record...Has an NL-leading 28 RBI in 28 games..."

NY Post: Braves catcher Sean Murphy’s two homers sink Mets in Game 1 of doubleheader. Atlanta used a pair of three-run homers by Sean Murphy to outlast the Mets, 9-8, in the opener of Monday’s doubleheader at Citi Field...It was the Mets’ sixth loss in seven games, while the Braves have won five of six to open a four-game lead in the NL East.

Mets 360: "Denyi Reyes...was hammered for 5 ER in an inning plus. It truly looked like he was pitching batting practice...The Mets staged a gallant comeback, with Pete Alonso socking a 3-run homer in the third inning and Brett Baty cracking a solo shot in the sixth to bring the Mets within a run. But Jeff Brigham gave most of those runs back in the seventh, as he served up a 3-run homer."

Over six innings, Scherzer allowed four runs while fanning nine and giving up five hits."

Metstradamus: “A two run HR by Alec Bohm tied the game off Walker, and this was looking like a game that would have sunk the Mets lower than they were even last night, after losing on a two run strikeout to a team with no Bryce HarperDidi Gregorius, and J.T. Realmuto.”

Baseball Reference: In the course of Pittsburgh's 8 - 0 shellacking of the lowly New York Mets, in which the latter's total of 4 hits is equaled by Roberto Clemente, the Pirate right fielder hits one ball, leading off the 4th, that the young Ron Swoboda, playing left field for the Mets that day, will recall, some thirty years later, as "the hardest ball I ever saw hit." Bucs beat writer Les Biederman concurs: "The first hit by Clemente was one to remember. It started out on a line toward the right-center fence and came within inches of clearing the wall at the 436-foot sign. It bounced off the wall right back into rookie Billy Murphy's hands." "The ball got there so fast, and bounced back to Murphy so hard," notes Dick Young of the New York Daily News, "that the speedy Roberto got only two bases." "But," adds Biederman, "the blast caused a rumble through the stands and no doubt unnerved Jack Fisher."
