For Immediate Release
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-3) rallied back from a 3-0 deficit, but Gunnar Henderson's go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh made the difference in the Bowie Baysox 4-3 win Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium.
After being down 3-0 courtesy of a three-run home run from Jordan Westburg off Ponies starter Mitch Ragan, the Ponies clawed back to cut the Bowie lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles from Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jake Mangum hit a one-out triple to right center field. The next batter, Francisco Alvarez hit a deep drive to left center field but CF Zach Watson made a leaping catch as he neared the wall to rob him of a hit. The sacrifice fly drove home Mangum and tied the game at three.
Both sides remained scoreless in the sixth before the single from Henderson in the top of the seventh off of Kevin Gadea (0-1) gave Bowie a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Bowie Reliever Ryan Watson (1-0) was stellar with four perfect frames, striking out seven. The Baysox (2-3) outfield shined again in the eighth, as leftfielder Toby Welk made a diving catch on a Ronny Mauricio fly ball to left to end the inning.
Brett Baty notched his second straight three hit game and Jake Mangum was 2-4.
The two teams have split the first two games of the six-game series, with Thursday night's game starting at 6:35 PM. Pregame coverage begins on Newsradio 1290 WNBF at 6:20 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Baty is hitting .478 on the season and over his last two games is 6-9 with three doubles, and three runs scored.
