Game Recap and Highlights: Baty and Mauricio Go Back-To-Back as Ponies win

MANCHESTER, NH – Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning setting the tone for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 9-2 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (12-16) on Wednesday night at Delta Dental Stadium.

Baty's two-run homer over the batter's eye in centerfield in the first off Nick Fraze (1-3) made it 2-0 and was his second home run of the season. The Ponies third basemen finished 3-4, reaching base four times, with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. The next batter Mauricio hit a solo homer over the batter's eye in center as well, his fourth homer of the year. Mauricio ended the night 3-4 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored.

The Ponies (10-18) extended their lead in the fourth inning on two out RBI singles from Zach Ashford and Antoine Duplantis that made it 5-0. In the fifth, Luke Ritter hit a two-run single to right that made it 7-0. Ritter now has five runs batted in over his last four games, with at least one RBI in each contest. Mauricio added an RBI single in the eighth to make it 9-0 Binghamton.

The Fisher Cats scored two in the ninth on a two-run homer by Sebastian Espino.

Mitch Ragan allowed three hits over four scoreless frames in the no decision. Alex Valverde (1-2) gets the win in relief pitching five innings allowing four hits and two runs with no walks and six strikeouts.

The Rumble Ponies have won the first two games of the series and three of their last four. They continue the series on Thursday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM and pregame coverage on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM at 6:20 PM.

Postgame Notes: Francisco Alvarez reached base three times and scored a run…Jake Mangum had a leadoff double in the seventh extending his hitting streak to 10 games and has now hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.
