HARTFORD, CT – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-1, 28-42) fell to the Hartford Yard Goats 6-2 to begin the second half of the season Tuesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
Hartford (1-0, 44-26) was led by two home runs from Hunter Stovall, who finished 3-4 with two RBI. Stovall put the Yard Goats on the board in the bottom of the first with the first of his two homers. Later in the frame Brenton Doyle belted an RBI double to center making it 2-0. Hartford scored in five of the eight innings they came to the plate.
Karl Kauffmann (5-3) earned the win allowing just two hits over six scoreless frames with three walks and six strikeouts. Kauffmann has not allowed a run against the Ponies in two starts this season, spanning 14 innings. Jose Chacin (0-4) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings.
The Rumble Ponies got on the board in the seventh as Hayden Senger led off the inning with a leadoff double. The next batter Wyatt Young followed with an RBI double to score Senger and cut Hartford's lead to 5-1.
In the eighth, with Binghamton down 6-1, Brett Baty blasted a solo homer over the left field wall, his eighth home run of the season, to make it a four-run game again.
The two teams continue their series on Wednesday night with Max Scherzer making his second rehab start with the Rumble Ponies. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with pregame coverage on Newsradio 1290 WNBF, 92.1 FM, and MiLB.com getting underway at 6:50 PM.
