Moquete walk-off HR gives Cardinals 7-6 win over Mets
St. Lucie drops 6th straight game.
JUPITER, Fla. (June 25, 2022) – Palm Beach outfielder Darlin Moquete hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Saturday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. (Box Score)
After falling behind 5-2 in the third inning, the Mets rallied back over the course of the game to tie the Cardinals 6-6. William Lugo hit a RBI triple in the seventh inning to cut the Mets deficit to 6-5. Omar De Los Santos brought Lugo home on a ground out to make it 6-6.
Carlos Dominguez led off the top of the eighth with a double but the Mets could not bring him in for the lead.
Moquete led off the ninth and hit a 394-foot homer off Trey McLoughlin to end the game. Moquete also hit a go-ahead three-run homer for the Cardinals in their win on Friday.
Lugo went 2 for 5 with three RBI.
Stanley Consuegra was 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles.
Mets starter Jordany Ventura was tagged for four runs and four hits over 2.1 innings.
Keyshawn Askew pitched 3.1 innings of relief, limiting the Cardinals to one run on two hits. He walked three and struck out five.
The Mets have lost six in a row and eight of their last nine since winning the FSL East Division first half last Wednesday. The Cardinals have won 11 of 14.
The Mets (40-27, 0-2) and Cardinals (32-34, 2-0) conclude their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
