Game Recap and Highlights: St. Lucie Mets Sweep Doubleheader Over Dunedin

De Los Santos homers twice, collects 5 RBI in game 2

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 13, 2022) – The St. Lucie Mets swept a doubleheader against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon at Clover Park. The Mets won game 1, 5-2 (Box Score), then defeated the Blue Jays in game 2, 6-3 (Box Score). 

The Mets improved to 5-1 in doubleheaders game this season, including going 4-0 at home. They have won five of their last six games overall. 

In game 1, Juan Loyo got the scoring starting with a RBI single in the second inning. Justin Guerrera later notched a two-out, two-run single in the frame to put the Mets up 3-0. 

Omar De Los Santos doubled in the third inning and went on to score on a ground out for a 4-0 lead. 

Junior Tilien hit his eighth homer of the season, a solo shot, to put the Mets up 5-0 in the fifth. 

Raimon Gomez made the spot start for the Mets and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Justin Dillon, pitching on MiLB rehab assignment, followed with 1.2 innings and retired all five batters he faced to get the win. 

Josh Cornielly pitched the next two innings, giving up a two-run homer to Dasan Brown for Dunedin's only runs. 

Trey McLoughlin closed out the game with a perfect seventh inning in a non-save situation. 

In game 2, Omar De Los Santos went 3 for 3 with two home runs, a double and five RBI to lead the offense. 

De Los Santos led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to tie the game 1-1. 

With the Mets leading 3-2 in the fourth inning De Los Santos cranked a three-run homer over the batter's eye in center field to open up a 6-2 lead. It was his 12th homer of the season. 

Mets starter Joel Diaz overcame early command struggles to pitch four solid innings. With the bases loaded and no outs in the second inning Diaz only surrendered one run on a walk.  He held the Blue Jays to two runs and three hits. 

Miguel Alfonseca pitched two scoreless innings to get the win. 

Reyson Santos got a fly out from the tying run at the plate to end the game. 

The Mets (50-32, 10-7) and Blue Jays (36-46, 8-8) continue their series with a single nine-inning game on Thursday. First pitch is 6:10 p.m. It's Dollar Night with $1 Bud and Bud Light, $1 soda, $1 popcorn and $2 hot dogs.
