Game Recap: Tortugas Come Back to Beat St. Lucie Mets, 3-2

 

De Los Santos clubs 10th homer 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 6, 2022) – The Daytona Tortugas came from behind to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 3-2 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Wednesday. (Box Score)

Austin Callahan hit a game-tying solo home run off Mets reliever Michael Krauza with two outs in the sixth inning and Jamal O'Guinn worked a bases loaded walk against Krauza in the seventh inning to force home the go-ahead run. 

The Mets scored their only runs on a two-run home run by Omar De Los Santos in the third inning that provided the Mets a 2-1 lead. It was the 10th homer of the season for De Los Santos. 

The loss spoiled a great start for Javier Atencio, who received a no-decision. Atencio set a career high with 11 strikeouts over 5.0 innings. He scattered just two hits and allowed one run. He struck out five of the last six batters he faced, including the side in the fifth inning to end his outing. 

Krauza (0-1) took the loss. He gave up two runs and struck out four over 1.1 innings in his team debut. 

Joshua Cornielly pitched 1.2 perfect innings to finish out the game. 

Daytona reliever Julian Aguiar (6-5) pitched the final four innings to get the win. He shut out the Mets and held them to three hits. Aguiar did not walk a batter and struck out four. He retired the last seven Mets in order to end the game. 

Tortugas starter Javi Rivera limited the Mets to two runs over 5.0 innings. 

The three Mets pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in eight innings while Rivera and Aguiar struck out 13 Mets. 

The Mets (45-31, 5-6) and Tortugas (33-43, 4-7) play the third game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
