Ponies Drop Wednesday Night Contest to Sea Dogs
BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (3-5, 31-46), fell 12-5 to the Portland Sea Dogs (6-2, 36-41) on Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium. Portland has now scored 23 runs over the first two games of the series.
The Sea Dogs scored first on a David Hamilton solo shot in the second off Ponies starter Jesus Vargas (0-6). It was Hamilton's second solo homer of the series and his seventh of the season.
Wyatt Young tied the game in the bottom of the inning with his first home run at the AA level to right field. He also added an RBI in the sixth on a groundout scoring Luke Ritter.
The Ponies gave up four runs in third, one earned and fell behind 5-1.
Portland tacked on three runs in the sixth capped off by an Alex Binelas triple to take an 8-1 lead. Ritter made it an 8-3 game with a two-run triple in the bottom of the frame and the Ponies trailed 8-4 heading into the seventh.
The Sea Dogs then returned the favor with four in the eighth to take a 12-4 lead topped off by Tyler Dearden's two-run single. Dearden went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Portland starter Victor Santos (7-7) earned the win pitching six and a third innings giving up nine hits and four runs while striking out three.
The Rumble Ponies will continue their series against Portland on Thursday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Brett Baty and Carlos Cortes each went 2-5 and Baty now has four multi-hit games in his last six games played and had an RBI in the ninth.
