Good Morning.  Mets lose to Padres, get Daniel Volgelbach for Colin Holderman, and sign 1st round pick Jett Williams.  Brooklyn wins big as Alex Ramirez goes 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs, Syracuse wins, Binghamton and St. Lucie fall.

Mets: Scored one or no runs for the 11th time this season, the second-fewest in MLB behind nine such games by the Dodgers.  Moved to 23-7 in series openers.

Luis Guillorme (1-3, 2B, RBI): Put the Mets on the board with an RBI double in the seventh frame.

Starling Marte (2-4): Tallied his 29th multi-hit game of the season, tied for seventh in the National League.

Max Scherzer (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 8 K): Passed Curt Schilling (3,116) and Bob Gibson (3,117) for 15th on MLB's all-time strikeout list...Is three strikeouts shy of Justin Verlander (3,121) for the most by an active pitcher.

  • Has earned a quality start in four straight outings and nine of his 12 starts this year.
  • Marked his first loss at Citi Field since 5/17/16, ending a streak of 11 straight winning decisions at the park.

Tomás Nido (0-1): Exited the game after the top of the sixth inning with a left hand contusion...X-rays were negative.

After rejecting a trade to the Mets, 36 year-old Barry Larkin agrees to a three-year, $27 million contract extension to continue to play for the Reds. The deal will keep the former Rookie of the Year (1986), NL's MVP (1995), and 11-time All-Star shortstop in Cincinnati until 2003.
2011
For the first time in the 50-year history of the franchise, the Mets compile a 50-50 won-loss record after playing one hundred games. New York achieves the dubious distinction when they lose in Florida, 8-5.


1965 - In a 5 - 1 win over the MetsPhillies first baseman Dick Stuart homers at Shea Stadium, becoming the first player to have gone deep in 23 major league ballparks.

1996In the pitchers' hell known as Coors Field, the Rockies take a pair from the Mets, out-slugging them, 10 - 7 and 11 - 10. The two games feature 59 hits, including eight home runs, off 17 pitchers. In the 1st inning of the nitecap, Dante BichetteAndres Galarraga and Vinny Castilla hit consecutive homers off Pete Harnisch. Galarraga hits another in the 3rd, one of his six hits for the day.

1999The Mets obtain P Kenny Rogers from the Athletics for OF Terrence Long and P Leoner Vasquez.
