FLUSHING, N.Y., July 28, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired outfielder Tyler Naquin and LHP Phillip Diehl from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league outfielder Hector RodrÃguez and minor league RHP Jose Acuña. In addition, RHP R.J. Alvarez has been designated for assignment.
Naquin, 31, was slashing .245/.305/.429 with 12 doubles, two triples, six homers and 31 RBI in 55 games for the Reds this year after hitting .270 with 24 doubles, 19 homers and 70 RBI in 127 contests for Cincinnati in 2021.
Naquin is batting .266/.335/.476 vs. righthanders this year and has slashed .280/.332/.473 with 50 homers vs. righties during his career.
The 6-2, 190-pound left-handed batter has slashed .269/.323/.450 with 90 doubles, 56 homers and 222 RBI in 507 career games with Cleveland and Cincinnati.
Diehl, 28, has appeared in 21 major league games, including five this season. The 6-2, 180-pounder was 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA (11 earned runs/23.1 innings) with 30 strikeouts at Louisville (AAA) of the International League this year.
Diehl was selected by the Yankees in the 27th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.
