Game Recap: Ponies Pitchers Shine in Shutout Win Over Curve on Friday Night

BINGHAMTON, NY – Anchored by a strong pitching performance, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-24, 40-65) defeated the Altoona Curve 2-0 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.

The Ponies pitchers threw a combined shutout allowing seven hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts. Kyle Wilson got the start pitching two and a third innings giving up two hits and striking out three. Jesus Vargas then pitched the remainder of the third.

Jose Chacin (1-8) came out of the bullpen and delivered four innings of four-hit ball striking out seven in his first win of the season. Jordan Yamamoto notched his second save of the season giving up just one hit over two innings.

Jeremy Vasquez got Binghamton on the board in the second with an RBI single off Altoona starter Jeff Passantino (1-1) plating Brandon McIlwain. McIlwain led off the second inning with a single.

McIlwain started off the sixth inning with another single and eventually came around to score on Nic Gaddis' sacrifice fly to left to put the Ponies ahead 2-0. It was Gaddis's first RBI as a Rumble Pony this season. He also added his first hit in the fourth.

The Ponies will continue their series with the Altoona Curve on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM. 

POSTGAME NOTES: Rowdey Jordan hit a triple in the eighth… Eight out of the nine Ponies batters reached base once.
