David Wright also stopped by High Heat to talk about the World Baseball Classic and the current day Mets:

NY Post:

  • Mets’ Carlos Carrasco felt rushed in rough first start with pitch clock - “'I said it before, I don’t have any issue with the timer, but I had it [Thursday],' Carrasco said following his outing. 'I was rushing myself and didn’t completely understand what to do.'...'I was throwing the ball sometimes with 15 or 17 seconds left,’’ Carrasco said. 'Then I was rushing in the second inning.'”
  • Ex-Met David Wright sheds light on challenges Aaron Judge facing this season “You have to deal with the pressure from both parts: being captain and living up to the contract,’’ Wright said Thursday at Clover Park, where he attended Mets camp before they faced the Braves. “It should be just outside pressure, but it’s tough because you’ve got this big new deal that you want to live up to and, on top of that, as captain, you don’t want to stink because your words might mean less if you don’t play well. … There’s enough pressure to perform in this game, and you try not to put more on yourself because of other things, but it’s impossible not to.”
  • Mets using lessons from 2022 finish in effort to get over NL East hurdle - "'...we really didn’t peak at the right time,' Mark Canha said. '...in our division we have got the Phillies and the Braves, and there’s no two ways about it: You have to play good baseball down the stretch. That’s what happened last year, and we need to be more opportunistic this year.'”
  • Brett Baty’s spring training bat stays red hot
  • Edwin Diaz, Mets put limitations on his World Baseball Classic participation - "Diaz and Mets brass reached that decision based on where the right-hander is in his buildup for the season. 'We don’t throw back-to-back here until late March,' said Diaz, who will leave Monday to join Team Puerto Rico in Miami."

Ballnine:

  • Doug Sisk Interview, Part II - Lots of great stuff from Doug including this: "You never brought your good car to Shea because they would key your cars out there. You had fans following you home and figuring out where you lived. Everyone was trying to get a piece of you in New York. Dwight [Gooden] was having a tough time even getting to the ballpark. One day, he was shopping in Queens and when he came out of the store, there were thousands of people around his car. He couldn’t even get to it and didn’t get to the park on time. We told him, 'Doc, you gotta get rid of your license plate!' It was a personalized plate that said “DOC 16.”'"

Mets.com:

  • Inside David Wright's World Baseball Classic run as 'Captain America'
  • Flexing: Each team's top power-hitting prospect - For the Mets: Francisco Álvarez, C (No. 1/ MLB No. 3) - "Álvarez is the type of batter that makes you want to get a good seat during batting practice. His whiplike swing and immense strength often elicit wows from fans, coaches, fellow players and evaluators alike, and he carries that power into games too. His 51 homers over the last two seasons rank second among all Minor League catchers, and he achieved that total before his 21st birthday. In only a brief Major League callup, he posted a 108.9 mph exit velocity that led all Mets catchers in 2022, and all indications point to there being a lot more where that came from."

I talked to Bartolo at this Winter's Queens Baseball Convention and asked him if he was interested in pitching for the Syracuse Mets this year and that he would surely draw a big crowd.  His response: "No".
