PORTLAND, ME – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-3) fell to the Portland Sea Dogs 13-3 at Hadlock Field on Saturday afternoon. Portland was propelled by a nine-run sixth inning and took all three games in the season-opening series.
Binghamton
took their first lead of the series in the first inning against Sea Dogs
starter CJ Liu on a JT Schwartz RBI double. Down 4-1 in the fifth, Binghamton
center fielder Matt Rudick belted a two-run homer over the right-centerfield
wall that cut the deficit to 4-3.
Portland
broke the game open in the sixth. The big inning was highlighted by two-run
doubles from Corey Rosier, Matthew Lugo, and Christian Koss. Tyler Dearden
tacked on a two-run single to cap off the scoring in the frame and give
Portland a 10-run lead.
Binghamton
starter Junior Santos (0-1) allowed four runs on six hits over four innings
with three walks and five strikeouts in his first start of the season.
Rudick
finished 3-5 with two RBI and is hitting .364 with two homers and six runs
batted in over the first three games. Luke Ritter reached base four times and
Dariel Gomez finished 2-4 with a walk.
The
Rumble Ponies will play next on Tuesday night in their home opener as they face
the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is at 6:35 PM with pregame coverage getting
underway at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.

Notes: Wyatt Young was 2-4 with two runs scored and a walk…Ritter
now has a 1.329 OPS… Dearden was 3-4 with 3 RBI for Portland.
