Nido homers, bullpen pitches 4.0 scoreless innings in 4-2 Mets victory

 

ST. LUCIE METS PRESS RELEASE: PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 21, 2023) – The St. Lucie Mets won their second consecutive game over the Palm Beach Cardinals with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Clover Park (Box Score).

 

The Mets received great pitching from a trio of pitchers again. Starter Jawilme Ramirez limited the Cardinals to two runs over 5.0 innings to earn the win. ChristopherVasquez pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and stranded the tying run on third base in the sixth inning. Luke Bartnicki retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings to collect his first save.

 

The Mets offense was powered by MLB rehabber Tomas Nido, who clubbed two-run homer in the first inning off Cade Winquest.

 

Kevin Villavicencio led off the second inning with a single to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Scott Ota then laced a RBI double to plate Villavicencio for a 3-0 Mets lead.

 

The Cardinals got on the board against Ramirez in the fourth inning when Adanson Cruz lofted a sac fly.

 

Darlin Moquete made it a 3-2 game when he hit a solo home run off Ramirez in the fifth inning.

 

Vasquez took over in the sixth inning and got a pop out from Carlos Linarez to strand runners at the corners. The Cardinals would only get one base runner the rest of the game.

 

Blaine McIntosh started the bottom of the eighth with a bunt single. He would end up scoring on a two-out infield hit by Junior Tilien to provide the Mets an insurance run.

 

The Mets (10-29) are off on Monday. Their home stand at Clover Park continues on Tuesday when they welcome the Clearwater Threshers to town for six games. First pitch Tuesday is 6:10 p.m.
