MANCHESTER, NH – Mike Vasil and Matt Rudick led the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (16-19) to an 8-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday night at Delta Dental Stadium. Binghamton has taken two of the first three games of the series.
Vasil (1-1) allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings with two walks and five strikeouts to earn the win. He has allowed just one run over his last three starts and has gone at least six innings in each of those outings.
Rudick hit a three-run homer over the right field wall to put the Ponies ahead 3-0 in the second inning, his fifth of the year and second of the series. Rudick also made two clutch defensive plays in right field. In the fourth, with a runner on first and two out, he made a diving catch running towards the right field line to rob Trevor Schweke of a hit. In the fifth, with Sebastian Espino off second and two out, Karl Ellison singled to right. Rudick charged and threw a strike home, with Matt O'Neill placing the tag on Espino to get the final out of the inning and prevent a run.
In the eighth, RBI doubles from Dariel Gomez and Tanner Murphy extended the Ponies lead to 5-0. Later in the inning, Rudick drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-0 and cap off the three-run frame. Rudick reached base four times in the game and finished with four RBI.
In the ninth, Agustin Ruiz belted a two-run homer to right to make it 8-0 Binghamton. It is Ruiz' third homer of the year.
The Rumble Ponies continue their series against the Fisher Cats (18-17) on Friday night. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and the NYCM Insurance pregame show gets underway at 6:20 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
