Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

 The Brooklyn Cyclones (21-28) square off against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (27-22) — the High-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies — in the final game of their 8-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. from ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, N.J. 

 

RHP Blade Tidwell (2-3, 5.34) — the New York Mets’ top pitching prospect — is scheduled to take the hill for Brooklyn against Jersey Shore’s LHP Rafael Marcano (2-2, 3.90).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn was swept by Jersey Shore in Saturday’s doubleheader...The BlueClaws won the opener, 3-2, in 8 innings and the nightcap by the same final...DH Rixon Wingrove delivered the walk-off RBI ground-rule double in the 8th in Game 1...He was 3-for-3 with a walk...SS Casey Martin registered 2 hits for Jersey Shore in the opener...C Kevin Parada collected 2 knocks, including a double...DH José Mena recorded a 2-run single in the 5th...RHP Tyler Stuart permitted 1 earned run (2 total) over 5 frames in a no-decision for the ‘Clones...Wingrove added 2 hits, a double, and an RBI in Game 2...LF Jared Carr went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap for Jersey Shore...RF Omar De Los Santos tallied 2 hits for Brooklyn, while CF Jaylen Palmer reached base twice on a single and a walk. 

 

BLADE RUNNER: RHP Blade Tidwell is in the midst of his best stretch of baseball in 2023...The 21-year-old did not factor into the decision on Tuesday but hurled 3.2 innings of shutout ball...Over his last 3 starts dating back to May 17 at Hudson Valley, Tidwell is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA (2 ER in 13.2 IP) with just 6 hits allowed...The Loretto, Tenn. native has walked 12 and struck out 19...Tidwell’s strikeout rate is 32.8% during the stretch and opponents hold a meager .130 batting average (6-46) against him. 

 

BIG STU: At 6-foot-9, RHP Tyler Stuart has been as consistent and imposing as any starting pitcher in the South Atlantic League in 2023...The 23-year-old had his scoreless inning streak snapped at 15.1 innings last Sunday vs. Winston-Salem, but permitted just 2 earned runs over 25.1 frames (0.71 ERA) in 5 starts during May...Stuart leads the SAL — and all qualified High-A pitchers — in ERA (1.23)...Stuart is also 7th in innings pitched (44.0) and 10th in WHIP (1.20)...The Kankakee, Ill. native is also 2nd in LOB% (87.2%), 2nd in FIP (2.86), 4th in xFIP (3.46), 6th in strikeout rate (29.1%), and 8th in strikeouts per 9 innings (10.64). 

 

THEY’RE NO. 1: The Cyclones’ pitching staff has been marvelous over the course of the team’s last 18 games...Since May 17, Brooklyn has permitted just 36 earned runs (48 total) on 117 hits through the last 151.0 innings...That is good for a 2.15 ERA...That mark is the best in the SAL and the High-A level...It is also the best ERA in all of Minor League Baseball in that stretch...Kansas City’s Single-A Columbia is 2nd in MiLB (2.49)...Cyclones’ pitching has walked 62 (10.0 BB%) and struck out 180 in that span (28.9 K%)...The ‘Clones have outscored opponents, 75-48, over the 18-game stretch...Brooklyn is 10-8 during that span...On the year, the Cyclones lead the South Atlantic League in ERA (3.80). 

 

BULL-PEN ON PARADE: The Cyclones’ relief staff has been exquisite at quelling fires in 2023...Entering Sunday, Brooklyn has the best bullpen ERA (3.13) in the entire South Atlantic League and among all High-A teams...Rome (3.51) is 2nd in the circuit and the Dodgers’ High-A Great Lakes is 2nd (3.29) at the classification...The Cyclones’ relief ERA is also the best in the New York Mets’ farm system and 2nd best in all of MiLB...San Francisco’s Double-A Richmond leads MiLB (3.02). 

 

UP TO PAR-ADA: C Kevin Parada extended his hitting streak to 8 games with a multi-hit effort in Game 1 on Saturday...The 21-year-old is 11-for-his-last-32 (.344) with a run scored, 3 doubles, 2 RBI, and a pair of walks...Parada holds a 126 wRC+ and .378 wOBA in that span...He is tied for 4th in the SAL in doubles (14)...Since the start of May, Parada was tied for 3rd in the circuit in two-baggers (10) and tied for 5th in the league in extra-base hits (13). 

 

MATEO MASH: INF Mateo Gil has reached base safely in 13 of his last 14 games dating back to May 18 at Hudson Valley...The 22-year-old is slashing .267/.365/.600 and he has registered an impressive .965 OPS, 154 wRC+, and .423 wOBA in that time...Gil is 12-for-45 at the plate (.267) with 9 runs scored, 3 doubles, 4 home runs, and 11 RBI adding 7 walks...Since that date, Gil is tied for the South Atlantic League lead in home runs (4) with three others...The former 3rd-round pick is also 3rd in the league in slugging (.600), tied for 5th in RBI (11), and 7th in OPS (.965). 

 

OMAR ON THE RUN: OF Omar De Los Santos is 10-for-his-last-32 (.313) with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, a home run, 5 RBI, 3 stolen bases, and a 115 wRC+...In addition to his 19 stolen bases in 2023, he remains among the best base stealers in Minor League Baseball since the beginning of 2022...The 23-year-old has accumulated 89 stolen bases in that span, which is 5th most in MiLB...Only Red Sox prospect INF David Hamilton (96), Marlins farmhand INF Nasim Núñez (96), Aberdeen OF Luis Valdez (94), and Mariners prospect OF Jonatan Clasé (91) have swiped more...De Los Santos has also snagged 51 more bases than any other Mets prospect in that time...Fellow Cyclone IF/OF Jaylen Palmer is 2nd with 38...Omar is already 13 swipes shy of matching INF Walter Rasquin’s franchise record for single-season stolen bases (32) which was set back in 2017. 

 

THRILL OF THE ‘CHASE’: After a bumpy month of April, INF Chase Estep picked up the pace at the plate in the season’s second month...In his last 22 games dating back to May 5, the 23-year-old slashes .286/.360/.494 with a .854 OPS...Estep has accumulated 12 runs scored, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, and 13 RBI in 86 plate appearances...The Corbin, Ky. native has also registered a 130 wRC+...In his first 12 outings, he was just 2-for-43 (.047) at the dish with a wRC+ of -21...Estep has also raised his batting average by 153 points in that time (.047 to .200).  

 

DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Cyclones were swept in Saturday’s twinbill and dropped to 1-7 in doubleheader games in 2023...All 4 doubleheaders Brooklyn has played have been in visiting ballparks...The ‘Clones are 20-21 in regularly scheduled 9-inning games this year.
