BOX SCORE

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (June 20, 2023) - Despite six strong frames for RHP Joander Suárez, the Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades, 1-0, on Tuesday night at Maimonides Park.

Suarez (2-5) allowed only one run, on just two hits, while tying a season-high strikeouts with eight. On the flipside though, the Brooklyn offense could muster only one base hit.

With the win, Hudson Valley clinched first place in the North Division for the first half of the 2023 season.

Renegades’ RHP Tyrone Yulie(3-4) was in top form against the Brooklyn bats. The Hudson Valley starter did not allow a base hit through seven innings of work. He and RHP Carlos Gómez combined for a 1-hit shutout. Brooklyn’s lone hit came in the bottom of the ninth with one out, when C Kevin Parada hit a sharp ground ball to third, and proceeded to beat out the throw.

The only offense Hudson Valley needed on the night came in the top of the seventh inning. With runners on second and third and only one out, 3B Eduardo Torrealba dunked a base hit into the left center field gap, easily plating one run. RF Grant Richardson tried to score from second, but was thrown out at the plate on a bullet of a throw from LF Scott Ota to prevent the second run from scoring. From there, Hudson Valley stranded Torrealba at second as CF Spencer Jones struck out to end the frame.

Brooklyn and Hudson Valley return to action on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. from Maimonides Park. RHP Jeffrey Colón (1-3, 5.40) is expected to toe the rubber for Brooklyn. Hudson Valley has yet to name a probable starter.
