The Mets did get close to trading Tomas Nido recently, but nothing is hot at this moment. He's obviously very available in a trade now that he has been DFA'd.

This is a testament to what Francisco Alvarez has accomplished. A few weeks ago it looked like team would option him once everyone healthy. Alvarez made that impossible with his play and hard work with pitching staff. https://t.co/GjzZJAk1vG

NY Post:
- What’s next for Tomas Nido after being designated for assignment by Mets. "The Mets have seven days to trade, release or outright Nido to the minor leagues....They would need to put on him outright waivers by Saturday because it takes 48 hours for a player to clear waivers."
- Francisco Lindor trying to work through slump as Mets have few alternatives. Writer Mark Sanchez notes: "Last year, Lindor struck out 18.8 percent of the time, which was the highest mark of his career. This year, he is striking out in 23.4 percent of his plate appearances."
- Jon Heyman: Mets better be right about being ‘capable of better’ "Overall, the Mets are 22nd in OPS at .713, which can’t entirely be Vogelbach’s fault. Also, they rarely get a hit with runners in scoring position (0-for-19 vs. the Jays)."
Elite Sports NY:
- 3 areas where Mets’ Francisco Lindor is struggling the most Matt Musico looks at "Lindor Vs. RHPs", "Getting a steady diet of breaking pitches" and "When it's not a high-leverage situation" noting: "With runners in scoring position, Lindor has produced a .828 OPS. If he steps to the plate with any runners on base at all, he’s hitting .255/.331/.481 (good for a .812 OPS)."

1944 | Annabelle Lee, aunt of future major leaguer Bill Lee, pitches the first of five perfect games in the 12-year history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The Minneapolis Millerettes southpaw knuckleballer, who will also pitch a no-hitter for the Fort Wayne Daisies exactly one year from this date, doesn't allow any batters to reach first base in the 18-0 rout of the Kenosha (Wis) Comets. |
1992 | Eddie Murray sets a new RBI record for switch hitters, driving in the 1,510th run of his career with a first-inning sac fly in the Mets' 15-1 rout of Pittsburgh at Three Rivers Stadium. The New York first baseman surpasses Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle's 18-year total to establish the new mark. |
1999 | Derek Jeter's streak of reaching base safely ends at 54 straight games when the Mets keep him off the basepaths in their 7-2 win over the Yankees in the Bronx. The defeat also marks the end of Roger Clemens' streak of 20 consecutive victories, an American League record. |
2006 | On the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year of the century, the Dodgers score six runs in the sixth inning during the sixth game of the homestand, beating the Mets, 8-5. On 05/05/05, the Twins scored five times in the fifth inning en route to a 9-0 victory over the Indians. |
