Brian Joura Mets360: "This loss wasn’t on the hitters, as they combined for 11 hits and six runs. It wasn’t on the pen, which had a solid 1 ER in 3 IP. It was on whoever made the decision to start Houser and keep him in as long as they did...Houser now has a 7.88 ERA overall and an 8.55 ERA as a starter."

NY Post: Adrian Houser doesn’t help his shaky Mets standing with dud outing in loss to Guardians. "Houser was hittable and Jake Diekman surrendered a big home run behind him in the Mets’ 7-6 loss to the Guardians at Progressive Field. The loss was the Mets’ ninth in 12 games and pushed them a season’s worst six games below .500."

NY Post: Mets’ Jake Diekman freaks out on water cooler after rough outing. "While Diekman did strike out two batters after giving up the two-run home run to David Fry, his frustration boiled over once he was out of the game. As he walked through the dugout toward the clubhouse he took a water cooler and launched it in front of him in anger."

NY Post: Mark Vientos responds to Mets chance with home run in strong outing. "Mark Vientos received an opportunity Tuesday to show he’s more than just a part-time bat against left-handed pitchers...Vientos responded with a 2-for-4 performance that included a homer in the Mets’ 7-6 loss at Progressive Field."

Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Adrian Houser hit hard again in loss to Guardians. "Down by four in the middle innings, the Mets made it close against perhaps the best bullpen in the majors. Jeff McNeil crushed a two-run home run in the sixth, and Starling Marte did the same in the eighth. But with the would-be tying run on base, Pete Alonso grounded into a game-ending double play."

Baseball Reference:

1963: The all-time shortest managerial career ends after one game - a loss - when Eddie Yost, who replaced Mickey Vernon (14-26) as the Senators' pilot, is replaced by Gil Hodges. Hodges was acquired today from the Mets, who receive veteran Jimmy Piersall in return.

1988 - Pedro Guerrero throws his bat at David Cone after being hit by a pitch in the Dodgers' 5 - 2 loss to the Mets. He will be suspended for four games by National League president Bart Giamatti

2019 - Veteran OF Rajai Davis has a surreal day: at 5:00 PM, he is taking batting practice with the Syracuse Mets in Allentown, PA, in anticipation of an evening game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the International League. That's when he gets the news that he has been called up to the major league Mets. He hires a driver to take him to Citi Field and after a two-hour ride, arrives there in the 3rd inning. He gets lost on his way to the clubhouse and has to ask for directions. He finally meets his manager and teammates in the 5th. He is then sent to pinch-hit for Drew Gagnon in the bottom of the 8th and hits a three-run homer off Sean Doolittle of the Nationals, capping a six-run inning. The Mets win the game, 6 - 1.
