After Tuesday’s postponement, the Brooklyn Cyclones (12-18, 45-51) battle the Aberdeen IronBirds (16-14, 50-46) — the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles — in a doubleheader starting at 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday from Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md.
RHP Jack Wenninger (0-1, 3.55) — the New York Mets’ No. 30 prospect per Baseball America — is scheduled to take the hill for the Cyclones in Game 1. The IronBirds are projected to counter with RHP Trey Gibson (1-1, 3.24).
In Game 2, RHP Jonah Tong (3-3, 3.36) — the Mets’ No. 17 farmhand per Baseball America — is expected to make the start for Brooklyn. Aberdeen is slated to counter with RHP Zach Fruit (2-3, 3.17)

THIS DATE IN CYCLONES' HISTORY: On July 31, 2008, 1B José Jiménez clubbed a game-tying three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning, while DH Jason Jacobs provided the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 14th in a 5-4 win at Vermont...In 2017, Brooklyn used a four-run top of the seventh to erase a three-run deficit, capped by a two-run CF Quinn Brodey single, in a 4-3 win at Aberdeen...In 2018, 3B Todd Frazier powered a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth during a Major League rehab assignment on Coney Island...Frazier went 1-for-4 with the long ball in a 4-3 loss vs. Tri-City...In 2022, RHPs Junior Santos (5.0 IP), Daison Acosta (2.0), Brendan Hardy (1.0), and Dylan Hall (1.0) combined to strike out 15 in a four-hit shutout during a 7-0 win at Hudson Valley...RF Alex RamÃrez blasted two home runs and drove in three during the win.
LET'S PLAY TWO: The Cyclones will play just their third doubleheader of the 2024 season on Wednesday after Tuesday's postponement...Brooklyn is 2-2 in doubleheader games this year and 1-1-0 in twinbills overall...The Cyclones swept a doubleheader vs. Asheville on April 13, winning Game 1, 6-2, and Game 2, 3-1...On May 16, Brooklyn was swept in a twinbill at Bowling Green, falling, 1-0, in the opener, and, 7-1, in the finale...In 2023, the Cyclones were 0-4-2 in doubleheaders and 2-10 overall...Tuesday marked Brooklyn's first postponement with Aberdeen since a doubleheader at Leidos Field was washed away on May 7, 2022...The IronBirds swept the last twinbill from the Cyclones, taking the lid-lifter, 4-3, and the nightcap, 5-1, on May 8, 2022.
IT'S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE: INF Wilfredo Lara and RHP Kade Morris were both dealt by the New York Mets at the trade deadline on Tuesday...Lara was dealt to the Miami Marlins in exchange for RHP Huascar Brazoban, while Morris was sent to the Oakland Athletics in return for RHP Paul Blackburn...Lara and Morris are the first active Cyclones to be traded in-season since RHP Carson Seymour and LHP Nick Zwack were sent with former Brooklyn LHP Thomas Szapucki and INF J.D. Davis to the San Francisco Giants for 1B Darin Ruf on August 2, 2022...Lara appeared in 78 games for the Cyclones after being reinstated from the injured list on April 14, hitting .244/.349/.343 with a .692 OPS, 16 extra-base hits, four home runs, 29 RBI, and 13 stolen bases...The 20-year-old was on a 10-game on-base streak at the time of the trade and held a .306/.393/.403 line with a .796 OPS in 19 games during July...Morris joined the Cyclones from Single-A St. Lucie on May 20 and accrued a 4-3 record with a 3.43 ERA (22 ER in 57.2 IP), 19 walks, and 57 strikeouts in 11 appearances (10 starts) for the club...During his time with Brooklyn, the 22-year-old was third in the South Atlantic League in innings pitched (57.2), fourth in batting average against (.221), tied for sixth in strikeouts (57), seventh in WHIP (1.16), and eighth in ERA (3.43)...Additionally, RHP Paul Gervase, a 2023 SAL Post-Season All-Star reliever for Brooklyn, was sent to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Tyler Zuber...In all, the Mets traded six former Cyclones at the deadline in 2024, including OF Rhylan Thomas (Seattle), RHP Tyler Stuart (Washington), and LHP Josh Walker (Pittsburgh).
