Brian Joura Mets369: "Francisco Lindor hit two of the Mets’ five home runs – and it could have been six if Jeff McNeil wasn’t robbed – as the Mets pounded the Yankees, 12-3, Wednesday night in the Bronx. The Mets are now a season-high five games over .500 and they finish the year 4-0 versus the Yankees."

NY Post: Mets homer five times in rout of Yankees for first season Subway Series sweep since 2013.  "In 25 ¹/₃ innings against any other team this season, Gerrit Cole has allowed two home runs. In 9 ²/₃ innings against the Mets, Cole has allowed seven home runs."

NY Post: Sean Manaea fails to last five innings in Mets’ blowout win. "Sean Manaea’s rocky first season with the Mets continued Wednesday, as the left-hander gave up just two runs, but didn’t make it through the fifth inning of a 12-3 win over the Yankees in The Bronx. The lefty walked four batters in just 4 ²/₃ innings and forced an already overworked bullpen to throw another four-plus innings."

Newsday: Subway Series: Mets club five home runs, score 12 runs to complete season sweep of Yankees. "Adam Ottavino got an inning-ending force out and Danny Young, Alex Young and Adrian Houser got the final 12 outs while allowing one run."

Tim Healey Newsday: Three takeaways from Mets' 12-3 win over Yankees in Subway Series finale. 1. The Mets own Gerrit Cole. 2. Lindor, not an All-Star, is on pace for another 30-homer/30-steal season. 3. Harrison Bader is sort of hurt, testing the Mets’ outfield depth...Bader was out of the lineup Wednesday after rolling his right ankle late Tuesday on an awkward attempted steal of third base...Mendoza described him as day-to-day after an MRI showed no structural damage. But Bader walked with a clear limp and left Yankee Stadium in a walking boot."

New York Mets traded Terrence Long and Leo Vasquez to the Oakland Athletics for Kenny Rogers on July 25, 1999.

1967
The White Sox become the second major league team in history to win a doubleheader with two walk-off homers when they sweep the Indians, 3-1 and 6-5, thanks to game-ending home runs by J.C. Martin and Ken Berry. In 1962, the Mets were the first team to accomplish the feat, with Hobie Landrith and Gil Hodges going deep, respectively, in the bottom of the ninth inning of each game to give the team its first twin bill sweep in franchise history.
1978
Pete Rose's third inning Shea Stadium single to left off Mets righty Craig Swan establishes a National League record for hits in consecutive games. The Reds infielder has hit safely in 38 games, breaking Tommy Holmes' mark set as a member of the Boston Braves in 1945.

1990
After having a commanding 9-0 lead, and still ahead 10-3 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets barely hold on to beat the Phillies at Veterans Stadium, 10-9. The nail biter causes the usually even mannered Bob Murphy to use a mild obscenity in his call of the final out, "they win the damn thing by a score of 10 to 9!"

1994
Rico Brogna, who was recalled from the Norfolk Tides five days ago where he was hitting .351, becomes the third Mets rookie to get five hits in a game, joining Dick Smith (1964) and John Milner (1972). The 24 year-old slick-fielding first baseman collects three singles and two doubles in five at-bats during New York's 7-2 victory over St. Louis at Busch Stadium.

1978: The Reds lose to the Mets, 9 - 2, but Pete Rose collects three hits to break Tommy Holmes' record for the longest hitting streak in National League annals. Holmes is in attendance at Shea Stadium and shakes Rose's hand after his 3rd-inning single off Craig Swan.

2001The Mets leave a club-record 16 runners on base, but still beat the Marlins, 5 - 2, pinning the loss on Ryan DempsterGlendon Rusch is the winner. Lenny Harris ties Smoky Burgess for 2nd place on the all-time pinch hit list when he doubles.
