Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (14-19, 47-52) look to make it three-straight wins against the Aberdeen IronBirds (17-16, 51-48) — the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles — at 7:05 p.m. on Friday from Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md.

LHP Felipe De La Cruz (3-6, 4.48) is scheduled to take the hill for the Cyclones. The IronBirds are projected to counter with RHP Levi Wells (0-5, 7.40).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones earned their second-straight win in an 8-4 triumph over Aberdeen on Thursday...Brooklyn scored two or more runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead...1B Mateo Gil cracked a two-run home run in the first, while CF Omar De Los Santos and LF Nick Morabito provided an RBI triple and single in the second inning, respectively...The 'Clones added three more in the third on a C Christian Pregent single, RF Sebastian Castro walk, and a throwing error...De Los Santos added a second RBI triple in the ninth...Morabito picked up two hits and stole a base...RHP Jordany Ventura tossed 1.2 innings of hitless and scoreless ball in his first start since being reinstated from the injured list.

 

THIS DATE IN CYCLONES' HISTORY: On August 2, 2009, the Cyclones erased a 3-1 deficit after four innings, taking the lead in the seventh on a CF Justin Garber RBI single in a 5-3 win at Hudson Valley...In 2013, CF Patrick Biondi went 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, and LF Jared King drove in four runs in an 8-1 win at Jamestown...In 2014, LF Michael Conforto hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning — the first of his professional career — in an 8-1 win vs. Connecticut...SS Amed Rosario added a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and an RBI in the win...In 2022, RHP Carson Seymour and LHP Nick Zwack were notified on the field by manager Luis Rivera that they were included in a trade to the San Francisco Giants...The duo became the first active Cyclones to be traded in-season since 2016 when the duo was sent with former Brooklyn LHP Thomas Szapucki and UT J.D. Davis in exchange for 1B/OF Darin Ruf.


EVERY ROSE HAS ITS THORN-TON: LHP Zach Thornton joined Brooklyn's roster from Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday and is scheduled to make his High-A debut on Saturday...In 13 appearances (six starts) for the Mets, the 22-year-old tallied a 3-2 record with a 4.39 ERA (20 ER in 41.0 IP), one save, 47 hits allowed, 16 walks (8.74 BB%), and 32 strikeouts (17.49 K%)...Thornton missed a month on the 7-day injured list from June 4 to July 14...The southpaw has thrived in a starting role...In the Florida State League, Thornton was 2-0 with a 3.42 ERA (9 ER in 23.2 IP), seven walks (6.67 BB%), and 20 strikeouts (19.05 K%) in six starts...In seven relief outings, he was 1-2 with a 5.71 ERA (11 ER in 17.1 IP), nine walks (11.54 BB%), and 12 strikeouts (15.38 K%)...Thornton was chosen by the New York Mets in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft from Grand Canyon University.
