SNY.TV: Lack of Mets offense overshadows Jose Quintana’s strong start vs. Mariners. "The Mets’ southpaw made one mistake early in the game -- a second-inning homer to Ryan Bliss -- but mowed down the Mariners lineup for six innings, even retiring 14 straight at one point...However, Quintana’s night unraveled in the seventh. After allowing the first two batters to get on base, Quintana was one pitch away from getting out of the inning after a strikeout and a dribbler. But Leo Rivas poked a 3-2 changeup down in the zone the other way to plate two runs."
Brian Joura Mets360: "Carlos Mendoza put in Adam Ottavino to replace Quintana. If you were going to pick the absolute-worst case for Ottavino to enter a game, it would be with a runner on base when he pitched the night before. And the runner stole a base. And after a walk, they executed a double steal. A single scored two runs to completely ice the game."
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets can't figure out Bryce Miller, get shut out by Seattle. " For the Mets, who recently have struggled with runners in scoring position at times, the issue wasn’t so much getting runners in as it was getting them on. After Brandon Nimmo’s one-out walk in the first, the closest they came to mounting a challenge was a pair of two-out doubles by Mark Vientos in the second and Nimmo in the third. Both were stranded there."
NY Post: Mets’ bats go cold, pitching unravels late in series-opening loss to Mariners. "After hitting two home runs in Thursday’s 9-1 victory in Colorado, Pete Alonso had an 0-for-4 night at the plate. Included was taking a called third strike in the eighth inning with two runners on base. Alonso voiced displeasure with plate umpire Manny Gonzalez’s call and didn’t retreat until manager Carlos Mendoza interceded."

"It's baseball. Miller had good stuff today, he executed his pitches. We got a couple hits, we got people in scoring position and we didn't come through."

Jose Quintana deserved a better fate tonight. He retired 14 in a row at one point, but a leadoff walk and a little infield bleeder led to a Mariners rally that's still going in the seventh.

📰 Quintana pitched better than his line, but the offense failed to reach nirvana in Seattle. Oh well, whatever, never mind.
