Good Morning.  Born Today Mets Coach Eddie Yost.  Happy Birthday Julio Valera and Taylor Buchholz. Mets name Kodai Senga as Game 1 Starter, will face the Dodgers tonight, and Jeff McNeil plays again in the Arizona Fall League.

Mets held a workout at Citi Field yesterday and spoke to reporters,  Here are some of the highlights:

NY Post: Mets completely flipped season around after brutal Dodgers embarrassment. "It was the Dodgers who embarrassed the Mets during a three-game sweep while outscoring them 18-5. The Mets dropped to a season-low 11 games under .500, were 16 games back in the NL East to the same Phillies club they just disposed of and were falling apart off the field, too."

Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets in a much better place than the last time they faced Dodgers. 'The last time they faced the Dodgers, the Mets were 11 games under .500. They had just lost 10 of their last 12. Jorge Lopez threw a glove...'That was the game of the team meeting, I guess?' Carlos Mendoza said after the Mets’ workout Saturday. 'We’ve been through a lot, but the fact that after that game, that’s when the guys got together and we started turning a corner, so maybe [it was a turning point] . . .'"

NY Post: Mets vs. Dodgers: NLCS matchups, predictions and preview. Writer Dan Martin give the Mets the edge in the Starting Rotation, Bench, Manager, and Intangibles.  He calls it even in the outfield and on the basepaths.  Every other category he gives to the Dodgers.

"I would like to thank Frank Cashen for being smart enough to hire me." - DAVEY JOHNSON, speaking to the press about the Mets GM's decision to name him as the team’s manger.

Davey Johnson, the Mets’ Triple-A Tidewater pilot, inks a two-year deal to become the 11th manager in franchise history, replacing Frank Howard who is promptly hired as the team’s first base-coach. The 40 year-old Floridian will compile a 595-417 (.588) record during his six-plus seasons in the dugout which includes capturing a World Championship in 1986.

Baseball Reference:

1973 - The Mets hold Oakland to four hits in the World Series opener, but three of those hits come in the two-run 3rd inning as Oakland wins, 2 - 1.

1999: The Atlanta Braves take a two-game lead over the Mets in the NLCS with a 4 - 3 victory. The Braves score all four of their runs in the 6th inning on a pair of home runs by Brian Jordan and Eddie Perez off Mets starter Kenny Rogers. Kevin Millwood gets the win for Atlanta, with John Smoltz making his first relief appearance ever to get the save.

2015: Clayton Kershaw ends a five-game postseason losing streak when the Dodgers defeat the Mets, 3 - 1, in Game 4 of the other NLDS. Justin Turner hits a two-run double against his former team for the key blow.
