12/6/2024 Mets Roster Moves: Mets acquire RHP Sean Harney for International Pool Money

 

The New York Mets have acquired RHP Sean Harney from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for 2024 International Pool Money.  

The money had to be used by the end of this year's International signing period or the Mets would have lost it.  

The right handed pitcher will turn 27 next July.  He was drafted by the Rays in the 8th Round of the 2022 Draft from the University of Kentucky.  Last year he went 2-0 3.54 ERA in 27 games, 40.2 innings, 35 Ks, 13 walks.  He was assigned to AA Binghamton.  He will Rule 5 eligible after the 2025 season.  

According to Baseball America when they scouted him in College - he throws a fastball in the low 90's with a low 80's slider and a mid 80's changeup.  Watching video of him pitch this last year, I saw fastball velos in the mid 90's.  Per the clips below, he looks like he has good swing and miss stuff.  It will be interesting to see how he progresses with more time in AA and eventually AAA.
