Mike Puma NY Post: Clay Holmes’ shift from reliever to Mets starter has reached its next phase. "In a 7-6 exhibition victory over the Nationals, Holmes extended to 67 pitches over 3 ²/₃ shutout innings...With his sinker erratic early, Holmes looked toward other options, including a changeup he has improved this spring."

NY Post: Francisco Alvarez to miss significant time with hand fracture in latest Mets injury crusher. "The catcher fractured the hamate bone in his left hand and will undergo surgery Monday that will sideline him for 6-8 weeks...Alvarez sustained the fracture on a swing during live batting practice."
Will Sammon The Athletic: Mets C Francisco Alvarez to have surgery on hand, miss 6-8 weeks. "Alvarez’s injury also impacts the pitching staff; the 23-year-old has quickly built a strong reputation for helping squeeze the most out of whoever takes the mound...Backup catcher Luis Torrens should see the bulk of action in Alvarez’s place...In his first two months with the team...hitting .304 and playing quality defense. However, Torrens went just 6-for-49 (.122) over August and September." (subscription required)
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets' Francisco Alvarez will miss first month of season with broken bone in hand. "Their in-house options, all of whom remain in major-league spring training but none of whom are on the 40-man roster: Hayden Senger...highly regarded as a catcher, winning the organization’s “Platinum Glove” award...in 2023; Jakson Reetz...has played eight games in the majors; Chris Williams...With the Twins’ Triple-A team the past two years, he hit 38 home runs and played catcher, leftfield, first base and rightfield;
NY Post: ‘Perfectionist’ Kodai Senga impressing as he takes latest step toward Mets normalcy."Kodai Senga took a step closer to being a mainstay near the top of the Mets rotation on Sunday, as he threw 50 pitches on a back field at Clover Park. He faced minor league hitters and a slight dip in velocity, which assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel said was to be expected in that type of environment."
Jonathan Mayo Mets.com: Mets looking for top prospects to complement veteran stars. Jonathan provides insight on the top Mets Prospects and notes this about Jonah Tong: "...in 2024, he took off, pitching across three levels (up to Double-A) and finishing with a 3.03 ERA and an organization-leading 160 strikeouts...Tong showed glimpses of an effective changeup, but he didn’t throw it that much. Now he’s tweaking how he holds and delivers the cambio -- and the early returns have been excellent."
Ken Rosenthal The Athletic: Mo Vaughn, fearsome slugger named in Mitchell Report, admits to using HGH: Exclusive. "Former slugger Mo Vaughn told The Athletic that he used human growth hormone in an effort to extend his career, confirming for the first time information disclosed in 2007 in the Mitchell Report. “I was trying to do everything I could,” Vaughn told The Athletic about his desire to stay on the field. “I knew I had a bad, degenerative knee. I was shooting HGH in my knee. Whatever I could do to help the process …” (subscription required)
