Mike Puma NY Post: “team brass is optimistic Springer will be wearing a Mets uniform by the time spring training begins, according to an industry source. But that optimism doesn’t guarantee the 31-year-old Springer is coming, leaving a need to consider other possibilities.” Mike looks at Jackie Bradley Jr.; Kevin Kiermaier; Kevin Pillar; and Jake Marisnick.

SNY.TV: Latest on Mets target Liam Hendriks: Could Dodgers be looking to build 'super pen'?

Brian Joura Mets360: Casey Stengel and trying to thread the needle with free agents. “Springer would be a good fit but the Mets don’t truly need him, especially if there’s no DH in the NL in 2021. Their real need is SP but with so many candidates available, they can wait until closing time if need be. It’s interesting – at least to me – that none of the second-tier starters have inked a contract yet.”

NY Post: New Mets owner Steve Cohen pocketed $1.6B in 2020. “The billionaire investor’s hedge fund Point72 Asset Management returned double digit gains of around 17 percent in 2020, according to an investor. Cohen’s personal take on that haul is expected to be in the range of $1.6 billion — or roughly two-thirds the $2.4 billion the 64-year-old paid for the Queens team in August.”

NY Times: Steven Cohen’s Past Re-emerges to Cast Doubt on His Updated Image. “In the complaint, Sara Vavra, who led a trading group at Point72, said Mr. Cohen stopped by her office in July 2019 and began ‘an abusive, expletive-ridden tirade’ in which he said her work ‘sucked’ and she was ‘stupid’… ‘We determined that Ms. Vavra made numerous misrepresentations during her employment about things big and small and the same is true about her complaint’…said Tiffany Galvin-Cohen, a Point72 spokeswoman.”

Metro News: MCU Park reportedly under consideration to become vaccination center.

Yahoo Sports: Tim Tebow releases first children's book, which pays tribute to his dog, Bronco.

MLB.com: Ha-Seong Kim: Padres are best team in MLB.

MLB.com: A new hope for 30 players in 2021. For the Mets - Dellin Betances “Betances posted a 6.10 ERA before landing on the injured list in late August due to a right lat strain, which he said had been bothering him for weeks. Betances briefly returned at the end of the season to give up three more runs, finishing with a 7.71 ERA -- but he's still got a chance at redemption.”
