Press Release: Mets Sign Adam Ottavino

FLUSHING, N.Y., March 13, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced the club has signed RHP Adam Ottavino to a one-year contract.

Ottavino, 36, was tied for the American League lead with 22 holds last year and was the only AL pitcher with 20 or more holds and 10 or more saves. He established career highs in wins (seven) and saves (11) in 69 games with Boston in 2021. Ottavino did not allow a home run against a left-handed batter (101 lefties faced). He was one of nine pitchers in the majors to face 100 or lefties without allowing a home run.

The 6-5, 245-pounder has pitched in 50 or more games seven times in his career and has made 60 or more appearances in a year five times. He has held right-handed batters to a .213 mark during his career.

Since 2018, Ottavino has had 188 outings where he did not allow a run, the fourth-most such appearances during that span.

Ottavino was born in Brooklyn and graduated from Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope in 2003. He posted a 2.76 ERA (26 earned runs/84.2 innings) going 8-8 with 113 strikeouts in two seasons with the New York Yankees (2019-2020).

Ottavino has 296 strikeouts over 224.1 innings during the last four years (2018-2021), the sixth-most strikeouts in the majors and 648 career strikeouts in 559.2 career innings.

Overall, he is 32-31 with a 3.60 ERA (224 earned runs/559.2 innings) and 30 saves in 11 seasons with the Colorado Rockies, Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals and Red Sox.
