St. Lucie has won 3 of last 4
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 1, 2022) – Alex Ramirez homered, tripled and drove in four runs to the lead the St. Lucie Mets to a 9-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammer-heads on Friday at Clover Park. (Box Score)
Mets catcher Brady Smith hit a two-run homer in the second inning to tie the game 2-2. It was Smith's first homer as a Mets minor leaguer. Albert Suarez followed with a walk and Ramirez followed a 415-foot home run to left field to put the Mets up 4-2. The damage was done against Jupiter starter Juan Reynoso (0-1).
Raul Beracierta increased the Mets lead to 5-2 in the sixth inning with a RBI double and Ramirez crushed a two-run triple to make it 7-2.
Jack-Thomas Wold chopped a two-run single to beat a drawn in defense in the seventh inning to up the Mets lead to 9-3.
Mets No. 10 prospect starter Joel Diaz gave up a two-run homer to Khalil Watson in the first inning and had the bases loaded with one out later in the first inning. Diaz then induced a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the jam. He pitched the next two innings scoreless to complete his outing.
Saul Gonzalez (1-0) pitched two perfect innings of relief with three strikeouts to get the win.
Keyshawn Askew held the Hammerheads to one run over the final four innings to earn his first save. He struck out seven.
Ramirez went 2 for 4 for the second straight game.
Tzu-Wei Lin went 2 for 5.
The Mets (43-29, 3-4) and Hammerheads (37-34, 3-4) play the fifth game of their series on Saturday. Military Appreciation Weekend continues with postgame fireworks. First pitch is 6:10 p.m.
