Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (0-0, 28-37) open the second half of the South Atlantic League season against the Hudson Valley Renegades (0-0, 39-27) — the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees — on Friday night at 7 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island. 

RHP Blade Tidwell (3-3, 4.14) — the Mets’ No. 7 prospect per Baseball America — is scheduled to take the hill for Brooklyn against Hudson Valley’s RHP Zach Messinger (0-4, 2.44).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cyclones snapped their brief 2-game slide with a 5-1 win over the Renegades on Thursday night...RHP Tyler Stuart tossed a career-high 7.2 innings and registered a career-best 11 strikeouts, en route to his 2nd win of the year...The 23-year-old allowed 4 hits and 1 walk...Only run scored on a C Antonio Gómez solo home run in the 2nd...Brooklyn grabbed the lead for good in the 4th...LF Abraham Almonte gave the ‘Clones the lead with a 2-run single...He reached base 3 times, adding 2 walks...3B William Lugo capped the frame with a 2-run home run to left, as part of a 2-hit night...RHP Benito García registered the final 4 outs to close out Brooklyn’s win. 

 

SECOND VERSE: Today marks the start of the second half of the 2023 South Atlantic League season...Brooklyn finished the first half with a 28-37 mark...Hudson Valley won the First Half North Division title, while Greenville captured the South Division...In 2022, the Cyclones advanced to the SAL Playoffs by winning the circuit’s Second Half North Division crown...Brooklyn (40-26) won the division by 2.0 games over Hudson Valley (37-27).  

 

STU-PENDOUS: RHP Tyler Stuart set career-highs in innings pitched (7.2) and strikeouts (11), earning his 2nd win of the year on Thursday night vs. Hudson Valley...The 23-year-old is the first Cyclone to record 11+ strikeouts in a single game since RHP Carson Seymour accomplished the feat on July 15, 2022, vs. Greensboro...Stuart is also the first Brooklyn arm to work into the 8th inning since RHP Conner Grey tossed 8.1 innings vs. Jersey Shore on July 16, 2021...The Southern Miss alum is the first Cyclone to work 7.0+ innings and record 10+ strikeouts in a single game since LHP Kevin Canelon whiffed 10 over 8.0 frames at Hudson Valley on August 25, 2015...Stuart leads all qualifiers in the  SAL, High-A, and all of Minor League Baseball in ERA (1.44)...The Kankakee, Ill. native leads the league in LOB% (89.5%) and FIP (2.89), 2nd in xFIP (3.18), 3rd in strikeouts (78), 4th in strikeout rate (31.0%) and innings pitched (62.2), 5th in strikeouts per 9 innings (11.20) and WHIP (1.09), and 6th in batting average against (.209). 

 

BLADE RUNNER: RHP Blade Tidwell is in the midst of his best stretch of baseball in 2023...The 22-year-old registered a career-high 7.0 innings of shutout ball, earning the win last Saturday night at Aberdeen...Tidwell is the first Cyclone to post 7.0+ innings in a shutout victory since RHP Jeffrey Colón did the same in a 3-0 win at Winston-Salem on September 9, 2022...He tied a career-best with 10 strikeouts in his previous start on June 11 vs. Greenville...Tidwell also whiffed 10 on May 4 vs. Aberdeen...Over his last 6 starts dating back to May 17 at Hudson Valley, Tidwell is 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA (4 ER in 27.1 IP) with just 13 hits allowed...The Loretto, Tenn. native has walked 22 and struck out 39 (12.84 K/9)...Tidwell’s strikeout rate is 34.2% during the stretch and opponents hold a meager .141 batting average (13-92) against him...Tidwell leads the South Atlantic League in batting average against (.141) and is tied for 4th in ERA (1.32) since that date (min. 25.0 IP)...He is also tied for 7th in strikeouts (39).
