Game Recap and Highlights: St. Lucie Mets bullpen falters, Blue Jays run away with 10-3 win


 


Dunedin’s Wehler goes 5 for 5 with triple and two doubles

 

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 1, 2023) – The Dunedin Blue Jays rocked the St. Lucie Mets bullpen in a 10-3 win at Clover Park on Saturday night (Box Score)

 

The game was tight for a long time with the score tied 2-2 into the seventh inning. But the Blue Jays bashed the three Mets relievers Luke Bartnicki, Joe Joe Rodriguez and Miguel Alfonseca for seven runs on seven hits and five walks over the final three innings to run away with the game.

 

Mets starter Jawilme Ramirez was excellent. He gave up two runs early in the second inning then retired 15 of 16 hitters. Ramirez became the first Mets starter to come out for the seventh inning but was greeted by a leadoff double by Jeffrey Wehler.

 

Bartnicki came in and gave up a single, then Angel Del Rosario hit a pinch hit three-run homer to put the Blue Jays up 5-2.

 

Rodriguez was tagged for a sac fly and a RBI double by Del Rosario in the eighth inning that put the Jays up 7-3.

 

Wehler launched a two-run triple off Alfonseca in the ninth to make it 9-3. Wehler went on to score on a ground out for the final run of the game.

 

Wehler put together one of the all-time great games by a visiting player at Clover Park. He went 5 for 5 with a triple, two doubles, three RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases.

 

Ramirez took the loss. He was charged with three runs on a four hits over 6.0 innings. He walked one and struck out one.

 

Kevin Villavicencio went 3 for 5 with a double in the loss.

 

Vincent Perozo slugged a solo home run in the fourth inning, his fourth of the season.

 

Wilfredo Lara went 1 for 4 with a single and a walk to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

 

Blue Jays starter Kendry Rojas gave up one run over 4.0 innings. Yondrei Rojas pitched the final three innings to get the save.

 

The Mets (2-4, 26-45) and Blue Jays (4-3, 36-37) play the fifth game of their series at Clover Park on Sunday. First pitch is 12:10 p.m.
