Here are the Brooklyn Cyclone Game Notes for today's game.

The Brooklyn Cyclones (26-16, 54-53) continue their two-week homestand as they welcome the Hudson Valley Renegades (20-22, 59-49) — the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees — for a six-game series on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Maimonides Park on Coney Island. 

RHP Robert Colina (3-2, 2.89 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Brooklyn against Hudson Valley’s RHP Baron Stuart (1-1, 6.00 ERA).

LAST TIME OUT: Brooklyn tossed their 2nd shutout in 3 games, as the Cyclones defeated Aberdeen, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon...Brooklyn scored 3 times in the 6th on a 2-run double by 2B D'Andre Smith and a C Drake Osborn sacrifice fly...Cyclones tacked on 1 in the 7th on a DH Omar De Los Santos home run and 2 in the 8th on a single to left by LF Rhylan Thomas...RF Stanley Consuegra accrued a pair of infield hits for the 'Clones...LHP Joey Lucchesi took a no-decision after 4.2 innings of 1-hit, shutout ball...RHP Paul Gervase set career-highs in innings pitched (3.1) and strikeouts (7) to earn his 2nd win...LHP Eli Ankeney tossed a scoreless 9th to close out the 3-hitter. 

 

TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS: Brooklyn collected their 10th shutout win of the season with a 6-0 blanking of Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon...LHP Joey Lucchesi (4.2 IP), RHP Paul Gervase (3.1), and LHP Eli Ankeney (1.0) combined on a 3-hitter...On Friday night, 2 different pitchers combined on a 3-hit, 5-0 shutout...RHPs Joander Suárez (6.0 IP) and Brendan Hardy (3.0) united to blank the IronBirds...4 of Brooklyn's 10 shutouts have come against Aberdeen...With Sunday's performance, the Cyclones have tied the franchise record for shutouts in a single season with 10...Before 2023, it had happened on 4 separate occasions...It last happened over 76 games in the New York-Penn League in 2014...The 10 shutouts are tied for 5th-most in all of Minor League Baseball and tied for 2nd among South Atlantic League squads. 

 

BIG RED DAWG: OF Ryan Clifford was added to Brooklyn's roster on August 3...The 20-year-old was acquired by the New York Mets with OF Drew Gilbert from the Houston Astros in exchange for RHP Justin Verlander on August 1...The 2022 11th-round pick enters Tuesday leading the South Atlantic League in slugging percentage (.538)...Greenville's INF Blaze Jordan (.533) is 2nd...He is also 2nd in OPS (.892) and tied for 3rd in home runs (18)...Among players with at least 250 plate appearances, Clifford is 1st in isolated power (.271), 4th in OPS (.892), and 6th in wOBA (.392) and wRC+ (138). 

 

THE RHY-T STUFF: In 26 games since July 4 at Wilmington, OF Rhylan Thomas is slashing .374/.408/.451 with a .859 OPS at the dish and a 137 wRC+...Thomas has added 11 runs scored, 4 doubles, a home run, 11 RBI, and 6 walks to only 6 strikeouts...Since July 18 at Hudson Valley, the left-handed swinger is slashing .389/.413/.486 with a .899 OPS and 148 wRC+ in 20 games...Thomas already has more RBI (11) than he did in St. Lucie (9) in 28 fewer plate appearances (139 to 111)...Among players with 100 or more plate appearances since the start of July, Thomas ranks 2nd in the South Atlantic League in batting average (.362) and has 5 fewer strikeouts (7) than any other batter. 

 

THE ROCO SHOW: RHP Robert Colina has been on a tear since he struck out a season-high 7 on June 21 vs. Hudson Valley, which was matched on August 1 at Jersey Shore...After tossing a season-high 5.1 innings of shutout relief on Tuesday, Colina holds a 3-0 record with a 1.53 ERA (5 ER in 29.1 IP)...The 22-year-old has surrendered just 21 hits and walked 6 with 35 strikeouts over his last 8 appearances (3 starts), Colina...Colina’s strikeout rate is up 3.4 percent (31.8 K%) and the walk rate is down 1.8 percent (5.5 BB%) during the period. 

 

ACE OF GERVASE: RHP Paul Gervase was transferred to Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday after dominating South Atlantic League hitters out of the bullpen in 2023...Among Minor League relievers with 45.0-plus innings pitched, the 23-year-old ranks 5th in strikeouts-per-9 innings (14.55), 8th in batting average against (.146), and 10th in ERA (1.72)...In the SAL alone, Gervase led relief arms in ERA (1.72), strikeouts (76), fewest hits allowed (24), strikeouts-per-9 innings (14.55), and was 2nd in opposing OPS (.526)...In his final outing on Sunday vs. Aberdeen, the former Louisiana State star set career-bests in innings pitched (3.1) and strikeouts (7), earning the victory. 

 

THE BEST AROUND: Since the start of a 4-game winning streak at Hudson Valley on May 17, the Cyclones’ pitching staff has, statistically, been the most dominant in Minor League Baseball...Entering Tuesday, Brooklyn has posted a MiLB-low 3.00 ERA (221 ER in 664.0 IP) over their last 76 games, holding a 43-33 record in that span...The Rangers’ Single-A Down East (3.32) is 2nd in the minors...The Cyclones have hurled 9 shutouts — which is tied for 2nd in MiLB — in that span and hold a strikeout rate of 27.9% and a walk rate of 10.8%...Additionally, Brooklyn pitching holds the lowest opposing OPS (.617), in addition to the 3rd lowest hits-per-9 innings (6.87) and batting average against (.209) in that period...RHPs Blade Tidwell (1.92), Christian Scott (2.15), and Tyler Stuart (2.37) hold the 1st, 4th, and 5th best ERAs in MiLB during that time (min. 75.0 IP). 

 

BULLPEN BOOM: The Cyclones’ relief staff has been exquisite at quelling fires in 2023...Entering Tuesday, Brooklyn holds the best bullpen ERA (3.42) in the entire South Atlantic League and the 3rd-lowest throughout Minor League Baseball...The Rangers’ Single-A Down East (3.11) leads MiLB and Hudson Valley (3.55) is 2nd in the SAL. 

 

TOP OF THE CYCLONE: Brooklyn's has dropped just 1 of their last 9 series since Greenville won 4-of-6 on Coney Island from June 6-11...The Cyclones are 6-1-2 in their last 9 sets...The Cyclones are 26-16 in the second half and hold a 2-game lead in the North Division of the SAL over Jersey Shore (24-18).
