Jon Heyman NY Post: This should be Mets’ Plan B to Yoshinobu Yamamoto chase. Jon suggests "If they don’t get Yamamoto, they need to shoot for Snell or Hader, preferably both, plus Woodruff, an ace who fits nicely since he’ll be ready to go in 2025, the Mets’ real target date. Snell and Hader were the best starter and reliever in MLB last year, and combined, coincidentally they may cost the same $350 million Yamamoto should cost by himself (including the $50 million or so posting fee)." What Jon doesn't mention is that the Mets would need to surrender at least two draft picks for signing Snell and Hader.
Baseball Prospectus did a deep dive in Seven Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About the 2023 Season—Part 1. One interesting point related to the Mets was that they were second in 2023 with a 15% increase in their stolen base success rate - 118 stolen bases and 15 caught steals in 2023 compared to 62 stolen bases and 22 caught steals in 2022. - What lies ahead for Mets after Yamamoto decides? Anthony DiComo sees the Mets going after two starting pitchers if they don't sign Yamamoto, perhaps one more if they do but on short 1-2 year deals - the same going for bullpen arms and an additional outfielder.

2000 | After trading their All-Star shortstop to the Mets last season, the Orioles get him back, agreeing to a two-year deal with free-agent Mike Bordick. The move will send Melvin Mora, the player obtained from the Mets to replace Bordick, to the outfield, where he is a stronger defensive player. |
2002 | After rejecting salary arbitration from the Red Sox, Cliff Floyd (.288, 28, 79), agrees to a $26 million, four-year contract deal with the Mets. The 30 year-old outfielder played with the Marlins, Expos, and Red Sox last season. |
2011 | The Mets announce they are eliminating their minor league team in the Class A Gulf Coast League, a move that could save the cash-strapped team between $750,000 and $800,000. Although the elimination of a farm team may appear to be a desperate act for the financially troubled franchise, New York was one of only three clubs to have as many as nine minor league teams. |
