From The Twins 8 Mets 3 Post Game Notes - 7/31/2024:

Mets:

  • Finished July with a record of 17-10 (.629)...Entering today, were the most wins during the month in the majors and the second-best winning percentage in the majors behind only Arizona (.667, 16-8).

Luis Severino:

  • His shortest outing of the season...He has given up seven or more hits in four out of his last six starts.

Mark Vientos:

  • Hit an opposite field two-run home run in the second inning to put the Mets up 2-1...Has now recorded an extra-base hit in four consecutive games, tied the longest such streak of his career (Also: 5/18-24/24)... Was the third time of his career hitting home runs in back-to-back games (Last: 6/23-25/24).

Roster Moves:

  • RHP Adrian Houser and RHP Ty Adcock have been released.

Brian Jours Mets 360: "Severino gave up a solo homer in the second for the game’s first run. After the Mets gave him the lead in the bottom of the inning, Severino gave it right back, with interest. He allowed five runs in the third inning, including another homer. And the Mets were never in it after that."

NY Post: Luis Severino roughed up by Twins as Mets fail to finish sweep "On Wednesday, manager Carlos Mendoza became concerned when he saw 93 and 94 mph readings on Severino’s fastball. He checked on his starting pitcher, who said he was fine. The trainers checked on Severino, who continued saying he was fine. His average four-seamer was down nearly 1 ¹/₂ miles per hour."

NY Post: Brandon Nimmo exits Mets game after fouling ball off foot. "Nimmo was removed from the Mets’ 8-3 loss to the Twins after fouling a ball off the top of his left foot while batting in the sixth inning. He said afterward that X-rays came back clean and that he expects to be in the lineup for the opener of a 10-game road trip Friday in Anaheim."

SNY.TV: "Upcoming Schedule. The Mets are off on Thursday. They open a three-game series against the Angels on Friday in Anaheim at 9:38 p.m."
