Abbey Mastracco NY Daily News: Mets prospect Drew Gilbert’s hamstring issue lingering, timeline unclear: ‘It’s just more of a day-to-day thing’. "A hamstring injury wiped out much of the 2024 season for the 24-year-old outfielder and it has lingered into spring. Gilbert was sent to minor league camp last week without appearing in a Grapefruit League game. It’s not ideal for a player that many thought would compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster this year, but the Mets are being extra cautious with his hamstring."
Will Sammon The Athletic: Which Mets prospects are poised to break out in 2025? Meet 5 under-the-radar candidates. Will Sammon gives some great insight on Inf Jacob Reimer, RHP Edgar Moreta, Inf/OF A.J. Ewing, RHP Raimon Gómez and OF Eli Serrano. Regarding Serrano, Sammon noted "Under the guidance of Mets director of hitting development Jeff Albert and coordinators Kevin Mahala and Daniel Nicolaisen, Serrano retooled his swing. In a recent minors scrimmage, Serrano pulled a fastball for a home run with an exit velocity of 105 mph. When the Mets drafted him, Serrano weighed 190 pounds. He now weighs 209 pounds." (subscription required)
Mike Puma NY Post Sports+: Francisco Lindor knows the one key question the Mets need to answer. He includes this quote from Lindor: “I feel like the front office did a fantastic job this offseason. And if [David] Stearns feels like we need more, he’s going to add more. For the fans that worry, it’s not about what we have, it’s are we going to get it done? Yes or no? That’s how I see it every single year. It’s not about what names we have, it’s are we going to get it done? And we have to get it done.” (subscription required)
NY Post: Brett Baty’s Mets season boils down to one key ingredient. "...if Baty is going to play a role on this year’s team, his versatility will be key." They also talk how Brett has his locker right next to Juan Soto this Spring. “Any time you have greatness and talent around you in the clubhouse, you can learn as much as you want. You can just learn from watching them work on their defense, like with Lindor, or taking BP.”
SNY.TV: Mets’ Tylor Megill focused on ‘staying consistent’ heading into 2025 season. ‘As long as I be consistent, I think the outcome is going to be very good’. "The Mets' right-hander cruised his way through a lineup featuring numerous Astros regulars including All-Star's Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez -- allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out five across four innings of work."
NY Post: The leap Tylor Megill must make to stick in Mets’ rotation. "Megill said his goal is to “not try to be too perfect..."Coming into this year, I want to go deep into games. I’ve got to be more efficient.”
Tim Healey Newsday: Why the Mets gave a major-league contract to pitcher Justin Hagenman, who has never been in majors. "Roster flexibility was part of why the Mets wanted him...Because Hagenman has never been on a 40-man roster before, the team is free to shuttle him between the minors and majors, an option they value — and a dynamic they could have for years...Hagenman’s aggression on the mound is something the rest of the staff could learn from. Last year, the Mets walked 9.6% of batters, the third-highest rate in the majors (and the highest of any playoff team). Hagenman issued walks at a 7.8% clip, which would rank in the bottom third among teams."
David Lennon Newsday: Mets' lineup with Juan Soto reminiscent of Darryl Strawberry's 1986 Mets lineup. "Lenny Dykstra and Wally Backman setting the table for Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter and himself. That collective success was based on those individual strengths functioning as a group. Strawberry sees that same potential in these Mets, and a glance at Monday night’s lineup for their 8-0 victory over the Cardinals provided a mid-March preview of what lies ahead."
